Mix together 15.25 oz pkg. lemon cake mix, 1 large egg and 1/2 cup melted butter in a large bowl with a hand mixer or with a stand mixer.
Press your dough into the bottom of a lightly greased 8 x 8 glass baking dish so that the sides are thicker than the middle and set aside.
In a different bowl, mix together 8 oz tub whipped cream cheese, 2 cups powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon vanilla extract until smooth.
Spoon your cream cheese mixture on top of your dough and spread evenly.
Bake for 23-27 minutes, turning your baking dish halfway through the baking time, if your oven does not cook evenly. It is done when the edges are lightly browned.
Notes
The cream cheese mixture makes this more of a spoon cake than a slice cake, but it is amazing. Trust me!
