I absolutely love banana bread.  I have loved it since I was a kid. I don’t get to make it very often these days because Miss Add (my 9 year old) LOVES overripe bananas and usually eats them up before I get the chance to actually make bread!

Ingredients for Crock Pot Banana Bread

  • 1/3 cup butter- softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

How to Make Banana Bread in a Crock Pot

  1. Put your butter and sugar in a large bowl and beat until well combined and fluffy
  2. Add in your eggs and beat until they are mix in well
  3. Grab a different bowl and mix together your flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda
  4. Alternate back and forth between adding a little of your flour mixture and a little of your banana to your sugar mixture while stirring until all is combined well
  5. Sprinkle your chopped walnuts on top and stir into your batter
  6. Pour your batter into a greased standard loaf pan that will fit in your 6-quart slow cooker (I used my Crock Pot 6-quart Cook and Carry). The pan will likely sit on the edges of the slow cooker and not go completely down and that is completely okay.
  7. Put your bread pan in your slow cooker.  If it will fit all the way down, place it on a rack so it does not sit directly on the bottom. If you do not have a rack (and your pan fits all the way down), you can pour about 1/2 cup of water in the crock around the outside of the pan.
  8. Place several paper towels over the top on your pan to catch excess water from the lid. Be careful not to get the paper towel into your batter.
  9. Cover and cook on high setting for 2-3 hours, until it can pass the toothpick test

Thank You so much for posting this recipe! I have to admit that I fall into the “oven doesn’t work” segment of your readers, but thanks to you, my family still gets to enjoy fresh, baked banana bread. On a whim, I threw in a handful of sweetened coconut that I toasted with the walnuts. I also threw in a handful of butterscotch chips to lend a subtle caramel flavor to the bread.

Can the ingredients go straight into a greased crock pot without a pan?

We haven’t tried this recipe without pan. Since some crocks cook unevenly, so I am not sure if it will work well. Using the pan offers best success. Hope this helps.

I don’t have a metal bread pan I have ceramic, will this be ok to use in the crockpot?

      Hi Karey-
As long as the pan is oven safe, you should be okay. Just make sure with ceramic (and glass) when you remove from the crock not to place directly on cool surface (just like you wouldn’t from the oven). Enjoy!

Would it turn out if you added chocolate chips? I usually do this when I bake it.

My 13 year old granddaughter would like to be a chef. She love all the cooking show and when she visit, we cook together. (So many memories) I am going to send her this recipe as her parents will not let her use the oven when they are not at home. Thank you for this recipe, she is so excited!

Just wondering what is the point? Why not just put it in your oven for an hour? Or is it just to prove that you can cook it in the crockpot? One of my favorite parts of banana bread, and I do make it regularly, is the crispy top.

      Hi Pat-
Many of our readers tell us on a regular basis that they appreciate the slow cooker versions of recipes — even ones that can be made quicker in the oven— because they want to make it while traveling on vacation. Some of our truck driver readers even make them in the truck while driving. Some folks tell us they need to use it because their oven is broken. Others tell us they need to save on energy costs of heating up the oven OR cooling down the house after a hot oven. The reason we share crock pot versions of popular oven recipes is to be a resource for readers that need or want a crock pot version of a recipe for any reason… but that doesn’t mean every recipe fits every reader’s needs. If you would like the oven version of this recipe, you can find it here: http://www.goodenessgracious.com/2017/03/homemade-banana-bread.html

      Enjoy!

I’m trying this because my oven don’t work and I have over ripe bananas. So I’m hoping it turns out.

Maybe because it’s a 100 degrees outside and you don’t want to use the oven? I use my crockpot and Instapot for this reason. Maybe your oven is broke? Maybe you live in a dorm or a recreational vehicle? Does it really matter?
