Cris here.

My very favorite way to cook up a whole chicken is in the crock pot. I love how tender the meat turns out. It makes for a great family dinner and the leftovers make great sandwiches or even meat for casseroles. So when I saw a recipe for “Fire Bird” in my new Texas Slow Cooker Cookbook, I knew we would love it. We simplified it a bit, but we just loved the flavor!

Psst… want to check out our Texas travel (and cooking) adventures? We have a whole playlist over on YouTube of all our Texas travel.

How to Make a Fire Bird in a Slow Cooker

So folks are intimidated by cooking a whole chicken, when truth be told it is one of the easiest slow cooker recipes to get a fail-proof awesome dish every time. How easy is it to make a Crock Pot Fire Bird? SUPER EASY. All you have to do is combine all the ingredients into a paste and spread it under the skin and over the skin. Then slow cook on low for 4-5 hours.

Notes on Crock Pot Fire Bird

  • This recipe was adapted from a recipe found in Texas Slow Cooker Cookbook.
  • Use any 6 quart slow cooker to cook up this recipe.
  • If you prefer crisp skin, you can pop your Fire Bird into an oven safe pan and broil to crisp the skin.
  • As with any of our recipes, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly depending on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish.
  • All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline and should always be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

      Hi Jeannie-
Cooking times are always just a basic guideline, but in general, low 4-5 is a great starting place. Enjoy!
