If you’re looking for a recipe that’s been tested, loved, and requested again long after the leftovers are gone, this is it. This Crockpot Chicken Stroganoff comes straight from Debbie H., a trusted member of our community, and this recipe has earned every bit of its reputation.
I am revisiting some of our favorite tried and true recipes from over the years to help you find some you may have missed. Our Crockpot Chicken Stroganoff is known around here for not only being super easy to put together, but also it turns out great every time! We have made it with both chicken breasts (and chicken thighs ) over the years with great success.
Why Busy Cooks Keep Coming Back to This Recipe
With just 5 minutes of prep time, this dish is about as hands-off as dinner gets. You toss a few simple ingredients into the slow cooker in the morning, and by evening you’ve got a rich, creamy, comfort-food meal that tastes like it took hours of effort because, well… truth be told… the crockpot did exactly that for you.
The ingredient list is short, familiar, and easy to keep on hand. No specialty store runs, no complicated techniques. Just simple food that works.
What You’ll Need
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cubed
- ⅛ cup margarine
- 1 pkg (0.7 oz) Italian-style salad dressing mix
- 1 pkg (8 oz) cream cheese
- 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
- Egg noodles, prepared according to package directions
Six ingredients. That’s it.
A Few Tips for Best Results
Cook your noodles during that final 30 minutes on high so everything is ready at the same time. Simple timing, no extra waiting.
All slow cookers run differently, so treat the cook times as a reliable starting point and adjust based on how your machine runs. If your cooker runs hot, check the chicken closer to the 5-hour mark.
Leftovers reheat beautifully. Store the stroganoff and noodles separately if you can. The noodles tend to soak up the sauce as they sit. Reheat with a small splash of broth to bring the sauce back to life.

Notes

- All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline and should always be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.
The Bottom Line
This Crockpot Chicken Stroganoff isn’t trendy or complicated, it’s just really, really good comfort food. It’s the kind of recipe that gets handwritten on an index card and passed along to friends (or printed off from a website 😉 ). With a prep time of 5 minutes and a cook time that works entirely around your schedule, it fits into even the busiest of weekdays. Make it once, and don’t be surprised when your family starts requesting it before the leftovers even run out.

Can not wait to make this – it looks sooooooooooo good. The only thing I will change is we have never used nor will I have margarine in my house – we use 100% Irish or Kirkland butter. Other wise this recipe will be made a written. Thanks for posting this. (Opps – I may throw a teaspoon or 2 of Italian Seasoning to jazz it up however.)
