Now before anyone judges me… I do run a slow cooker website and cook regularly with 3-4 different slow cookers at a time. And, I like to try new features on slow cookers to share them with you… all in the name of being a resource for you. ย **Sigh** It’s a tough job, but someone needs to do it. I am here for you ;). (And yes, I realize those shelves are extremely messy… #RealLife)

So when the folks with the Hold and Go Slow Cooker contacted me and asked if I was willing to give their unit a try, I told them they could send it but that I would only share it with you if I liked it. They accepted the challenge and sent it along. (Note: While I did receive a unit to test, I did not receive any additional payment for this review.)

To be honest, I wasn’t sure how I would like it. I have tried a lot of different travel slow cookers over the years and I have been less than impressed at common “lid-staying on” features… I wasn’t really sure how this one could be any different really.

When it arrived, I was traveling a lot so it sat on my floor, in the box, until one day when my girlfriend called and said she was having some folks over and asked me to bring something… And then I realized I had the perfect opportunity to give this sucker a try.

I threw in the ingredients and didn’t really think a lot more about it. Then it was time to rush out the door. I was carrying my purse, water bottle and three bags of groceries and needed to get the slow cooker to the car when I discovered the ingenious design of the Hold and Go Slow Cooker… it can be carried with one hand. Heck, it can be carried on your arm if need be while carrying additional bags.

And, we aren’t talking carried anxiously teetering on one hand. We are talking securely, swing that puppy around and that lidย ain’t going anywhere kind of one hand.

I was impressed. It was easy to operate and the lid was super secure.

Then, when I got to the party I realized the handle turned into a lid holder.

So what are my pros and cons with this unit?

Cons

  • It is not programmable ๐Ÿ™
  • With such a brilliant traveling concept, I wish it had a cord winder or a place to wind the cord.

Pros

  • The 5 qt size is perfect for a lot of dips and party foods. It also makes carrying with one hand doable.
  • That handle is ah-mazing. ONE handed carrying has me sold.
  • Love the lid holder.
  • The unit we tried cooks true to temperature and isn’t boiling hot on every setting like some units.
  • The lid securing levers are super easy to use and are very secure.

The Bottom Line

If you take your slow cooker to potlucks, family gatherings or office parties often, I would not hesitate to recommend the Hold and Go Slow Cooker.

    I ove the fact you got a a good carry handle. We usually bring hobo beans or sloopy joes in a crock pot at get togethers. We sure could use a nice crock pot like this.

    We do a lot of tailgating during football season. This would be perfect to take the number of dishes I take. Such as Jambayla, Red Beans & Rice, Gumbo, And I could go on and on.

  7. WOW! This Hold and Go Slow Cooker would be perfect for the pot lucks at church and BCEA Extension Homemakers – I am always carrying my tote bag with agendas, records, etc and this would make my life easier and SAFER when carrying the slow cooker!

    Augratin potatoes made with frozen cubed potatoes, 2 cans of cheddar cheese soup, season to taste with MS Dash, and a can of evaporated milk. If started at home in morning and placed on high after traveling to office plug in again and with my slow cooker, they are ready for a noon meal at work.

  11. I would continue to make my departed mom’s beef stew receipt. I take it on camping trips because we always have a source power. Nothin like going for a long ride or hike and returning to Mom’s stew!

    I like to bring Calico Beans to a potluck. Everyone seems to love them and crock pots are a food-safe way to bring food.

  14. Depending on the occasion, dishes I bring vary but I love to cook Italian Beef, appetizers, even deserts.

  15. I love making all my appetizers for company gatherings in my crockpot. Having the on the go would simplify my anxiety about getting it a to the office safely & without spilling in my backseat. Alas save the spicy sweet meatballs….
