Cris here. I have a confession.ย I have a lot of slow cookers…

Crock pots

No really. A LOT.

Wall of Slow Cookers

Now before anyone judges me… I do run a slow cooker website and cook regularly with 3-4 different slow cookers at a time. And, I like to try new features on slow cookers to share them with you… all in the name of being a resource for you. ย **Sigh** It’s a tough job, but someone needs to do it. I am here for you ;). (And yes, I realize those shelves are extremely messy… #RealLife)

So when the folks with the Hold and Go Slow Cooker contacted me and asked if I was willing to give their unit a try, I told them they could send it but that I would only share it with you if I liked it. They accepted the challenge and sent it along. (Note: While I did receive a unit to test, I did not receive any additional payment for this review.)

To be honest, I wasn’t sure how I would like it. I have tried a lot of different travel slow cookers over the years and I have been less than impressed at common “lid-staying on” features… I wasn’t really sure how this one could be any different really.

When it arrived, I was traveling a lot so it sat on my floor, in the box, until one day when my girlfriend called and said she was having some folks over and asked me to bring something… And then I realized I had the perfect opportunity to give this sucker a try.

I threw in the ingredients and didn’t really think a lot more about it. Then it was time to rush out the door. I was carrying my purse, water bottle and three bags of groceries and needed to get the slow cooker to the car when I discovered the ingenious design of the Hold and Go Slow Cooker… it can be carried with one hand. Heck, it can be carried on your arm if need be while carrying additional bags.

And, we aren’t talking carried anxiously teetering on one hand. We are talking securely, swing that puppy around and that lidย ain’t going anywhere kind of one hand.

I was impressed. It was easy to operate and the lid was super secure.

Then, when I got to the party I realized the handle turned into a lid holder.

Brilliant.

Hold and Go Slow Cooker

So what are my pros and cons with this unit?

Cons

  • It is not programmable ๐Ÿ™
  • With such a brilliant traveling concept, I wish it had a cord winder or a place to wind the cord.

Pros

  • The 5 qt size is perfect for a lot of dips and party foods. It also makes carrying with one hand doable.
  • That handle is ah-mazing. ONE handed carrying has me sold.
  • Love the lid holder.
  • The unit we tried cooks true to temperature and isn’t boiling hot on every setting like some units.
  • The lid securing levers are super easy to use and are very secure.

The Bottom Line

If you take your slow cooker to potlucks, family gatherings or office parties often, I would not hesitate to recommend the Hold and Go Slow Cooker.

  2. I like to make Slap Ya Momma potatoes in the slow cooker. Potato, smoked sausage, green pepper, onions & mushroom soup with Slap Ya Momma Cajun seasoning. It’s a dish everybody likes!

  3. Chicken Tortilla Soup

  4. We love taking food to church pot luck dinners. Whether it be meatballs, shredded chicken sandwiches, sloppy joes or goulash. Have made apple pie filling it the crock pot also. Love how tender all the meats are and not having to stand over a pot or check the oven.

  5. CHILI for the 85thmillion time on the comments – but it’s true!! My secret is to use many different peppers, only one or two that are hot and the rest are sweet/flavor rounded, and a couple types of beans (at least three). The crock makes the taste so deep – less chili powder and cayenne and more paprika too! (Like no one else has chili secrets:)) Ground turkey is good w/ a little ground pork added in. (Has anyone else noticed hamburger is more expensive than steak on sale?)

I cook so many things in my crock pot. Meats, veggies, desserts, can’t live without one. Usually I bring a good chicken casserole to potluck dinners. The side handles are off and the lid handle is gone and was replaced with a drawer pull but its still keeps cookin.

  22. My son has a ton of food allergies & I bring food for him to family/friend gatherings.. Tonight I made the chicken tacos and he absolutely loved them. It is hard to find recipes that he can have that taste good! I would love to take the chicken tacos in a travel crockpot!!

If I win I can’t wait to take my chili to our family gatherings in this slow cooker. We are also having a Thanksgiving meal at work and it would be so nice to carry this to work with my chicken dressing in it so I can keep it warm throughout for the different lunch breaks.
