We love using our Ninja Foodi— both at home and on the road in our camper kitchen. It comes in SO handy. When we realized the Ninja Foodi has a broiling feature, we knew one of the first things we would try! Broiling steak in the Ninja Foodi is super easy and a great alternative when you don’t want to heat up the oven or if you don’t want to grill in the rain! This is also super convenient for those of us on low carb diets! Love me a good rib-eye and now we can literally make them rain or shine!
Notes on Broiling Steak in the Ninja Foodi
- This recipe is specific to the broiling feature on the Ninja Foodi, however, you could use the same method in your oven broiler.
- Cooking times will vary greatly depending on thickness of steak and how YOU like your steak cooked. We found for a medium cut ribeye, we could achieve medium rare by broiling 5 1/2 minutes on each side. Medium took 6 1/2 minutes on each side. Thinner steaks will take less time. Thicker steaks will take more time. Add and subtract minutes to reach desired level of doneness.
- We found that a medium cut steak gave us the best results when broiling steak in the Ninja Foodi. Thin steaks were too chewy.
- We did not like the results we got by using the Air Crisp feature to cook steak in the Ninja Foodi. We prefer using the broiling feature.

Thanks for this, i have a dual basket foodi, one rib eye steak on airbroil for 7 minutes was perfect…turned at 4 minutes.
I was hesitant to cook meat grill-style in the Ninja Foodi, but my DH was craving steak. He sent me a recipe which I didn’t vibe with (it was just an ad in disguise), which lead me to your video on YouTube. So, heck, first time using the rack in the foodi, I followed your lead. We had Sirloin steaks, and I let them get to room temp before cooking, then let them rest for 5-minutes. They were the BEST STEAKS I have ever made! I’m so excited to have discovered this new use for my Foodi, thank you! I’ll try some more of your recipes as well. Again, THANK YOU for your help, you made our night!
We’re so glad you enjoyed this recipe and hope you find many more recipes to love!
I just enjoy seeing these two do whatever I get inspired and I really dig the vibe
Thanks so much for the kind words. Glad you enjoy the videos!
I’m cooking steaks tonight for dinner 1st time in the ninja foodi (got it 4 Christmas) I like mine with no pink on the inside. Thanks sm for sharing
How long did broil your steaks to medium well?
This recipe is for 2. Would the recipe time or settings change to cook 4 steaks, and using the racks? I just opened my Foodi, so I am brand new to it, and this is my first time making anything in it.
Hi Nicole!
We have not tried broiling 4 at a time. I don’t think it would broil properly doing more than 2 at once. So, it may be best to do them in batches.
Aunt Lou
Nicole,
I had this thought the day I opened my 9-1. If you haven’t figured it out yet, here’s what I found that works for us since we like 2 R-MR and 2 Medium. Use the deluxe rack setup.
Short broil 2 steaks. If you’re thinking 3 minutes per side, do 2 1/2. Flip em, and go 2 1/2 on the other side.
Remove the basket and put these on the bottom rack. Put the 2 raw ones on the top, and broil for 3 min per side.
When you’re finished with the top 2, after resting the bottom ones will be a perfect Medium and the ones on the top Rare-Medium Rare.
I always let mine rest for 10 minutes before serving. I’ve found leaving them inside the 9-1 works great. Keeps them warm, this keeps the juices from pouring out when you slice it, allows the muscle fibers time to relax, and if you’ve ever checked the internal temp, it will keep rising after being removed from the cooking surface. For this last reason, I always undercook by 5 degrees.
This works perfectly for us using 3/4 inch thick ribeyes.
One thing I’ve learned being in a kitchen for three decades is always cook to temperature. Time is irrelevant. Get a good instant-read pen, like a Thermapen.
Hope this helps!
This turned out perfect.
Yay! We’re so glad to hear it Shelly! It really makes our day to hear that our readers like one of our recipes!
Cooked two ribeyes in the ninja foodi according to your video and they were perfect, First time using the broiler in the foodi, love it!!
So glad to hear it Linda! We love hearing when our readers love a recipe!
Is there a specific temperature that you broil at if I am making roast beef? When I turn the dial to broil, 450 degrees comes up automatically. Is it ok to keep at 450? I want to cook it to medium. Thanks
Hi Kelly-
We just left ours on the default broil setting. Hope that helps!
Hi I want to try this broil method but don’t like ribeye. Have you tried this method with a leaner cut like sirloin steaks?
Hi Marina-
Much like grilling, cooking times will vary depending on thickness and desired result. You could use the same method but just keep a close eye on it. It could get done a bit faster than the ribeye is my guess. Enjoy!
Thanks for the tips. The two steaks turned out well. Almost too big for the stand.
Trying this tonight got a ninja foodi with the air crisp and all the goodies using the broil recipe tonight on two med. rib eyes will let you know not sure how to use the foodie but it looks easy just out of the box on Christmas day I put a whole chicken in followed one of your recipes and it was great so it is STEAK tonight and its 30 degrees outside and i can cook a steak w/o having to stand in the cold Will let you know how it came out going to do 5 min on each side and then check it (i like well and my hubby likes med. rare so I might take his out first)
I just got a foodie ninja for Christmas and i cannot wait to start cooking on it! Making a ny strip tonight for dinner
Welcome to the Foodi world! Hope your dinner was delicious!
You will love your Foodi. I got one from Santa and I made a pork loin last night with Texmati rice and quinoa. It was amazing and super fast. My 6 & 9 year olds said it was the best rice ever and my picky eater husband enjoyed it too!!
Just watched your rib eye show. Will try tonight.
Thank you.
Ellen
The best way to get a perfect steak is the Sous Vide method, then a quick sear in preferably a cast iron skillet. Perfect everytime, throughout the steak.
I’m sure it is. It’s not that we don’t know that there are other ways to cook a steak. But this recipe is for people who are using the Ninja Foodi. Your comment is pointless
I tried your ribeye in the foodie and it was delicious! I usually struggle with grilling a steak & let the men handle them on the grill. It was so easy & it came out perfect. Can’t wait to try some of your other foodi recipes
I marinated my ribeyes overnight before broiling. Could only do one at a time due to their size, but they were worth the wait! 7 minutes per side then let them rest wrapped in foil 5 minutes, and they were a perfect medium well. So juicy and tender!
So glad you enjoyed it, Lisa!
I used Tri tip and they came out GREAT! Thanks so much
So glad to hear it, Lorene!
