We love it so much it inspired us to make this electric pressure cooker version- taco meat style. We make taco meat a lot around here for soups, salads, casseroles and well, tacos.
This recipe is one of those kitchen tips that saves me tons of time and just simply makes life easier. We use this Electric Pressure Cooker Make Ahead Taco Meat to make it in bulk and then use it for quick meal prep for taco night, taco salads, taco casseroles and taco soups! You can make this recipe in any 6 quart electric pressure cooker and use any taco seasoning mix you want– even homemade. It is the method that is the game-changer. You can quickly take 4 lbs of ground beef from raw to taco meat in minutes thanks to this two step process.
Notes on Electric Pressure Cooker Make Ahead Taco Meat
- The leaner the ground beef you use, the more taco meat it will make.
- If you would like to cool your meat faster before freezing, pour taco meat out onto a cookie sheet to cool.
- We have tested this recipe in our Ninja Foodi and Instant Pot but you can use any 6-8 quart electric pressure cooker.

Electric Pressure Cooker Make Ahead Taco Meat
Ingredients
- 4 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 cup beef broth
- 4 taco seasoning packets
- water according to packets
Instructions
- Place ground beef into a 6 quart electric pressure cooker and roughly break up with a wooden spoon or mix and chop.
- Add beef broth and cook under high pressure for 5 minutes.
- Quick release and drain all liquid away from ground beef.
- Break ground beef up again and add taco seasoning and water according to packages.
- Place under high pressure for 10 minutes and quick release again.
- Stir well and allow to cool before dividing into 4 freezer bags.

i used a homemade taco seasoning mix and used the same amount of water Chris did and it turned out great. this is so much faster than cooking on the stove… I will be making this whenever i make taco meat… thank you
Cool recipe! Have one question… you state that you can even use homemade taco seasoning, sooo, how much water do you use for that? When I make it in a skillet, I just my diy taco seasoning to the meat as it cooks… no water needed.

I would use a homemade seasoning recipe that requires water. Otherwise the flavor will become diluted because you will need a minimum of 1 cup of liquid to reach pressure. Hope that helps!
I am wondering what, if anything, you would do differently to brown plain hamburger.using the Foodi?
