How to Make Taco Meat in Bulk in an Electric Pressure Cooker (Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi, Crock Pot Express)

Cris here.

For years folks have told us how much they LOVE our Crock Pot Make Ahead Ground Beef. They use it for casseroles, soups and to make tacos in a snap. We love it so much it inspired us to make this electric pressure cooker version- taco meat style. We make taco meat a lot around here for soups, salads, casseroles and well, tacos.

This recipe is one of those kitchen tips that saves me tons of time and just simply makes life easier. We use this Electric Pressure Cooker Make Ahead Taco Meat to make it in bulk and then use it for quick meal prep for taco night, taco salads, taco casseroles and taco soups! You can make this recipe in any 6 quart electric pressure cooker and use any taco seasoning mix you want– even homemade. It is the method that is the game-changer. You can quickly take 4 lbs of ground beef from raw to taco meat in minutes thanks to this two step process.

Notes on Electric Pressure Cooker Make Ahead Taco Meat

  • The leaner the ground beef you use, the more taco meat it will make.
  • If you would like to cool your meat faster before freezing, pour taco meat out onto a cookie sheet to cool.
  • We have tested this recipe in our Ninja Foodi and Instant Pot but you can use any 6-8 quart electric pressure cooker.
  • More Ninja Foodi Recipes? You can find them here. You can also make any of our Instant Pot Recipes and Air Fryer Recipes in the Ninja Foodi.
  • If you are using an 8-quart Instant Pot, you may need to use a half cup more liquid to make sure your Instant Pot will come up to pressure.
  • You can find more electric pressure cooker recipes with our Recipe Finder.
  • Check out our favorite Slow Cookers, Pressure Cookers, Multi-Cookers and Air Fryers in our Amazon Influencer Shop.
  • As with any of our recipes, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly depending on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish.
  • All electric pressure cookers cook differently under different conditions, so cooking times are always a basic guideline and should always be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

i used a homemade taco seasoning mix and used the same amount of water Chris did and it turned out great. this is so much faster than cooking on the stove… I will be making this whenever i make taco meat… thank you

Cool recipe! Have one question… you state that you can even use homemade taco seasoning, sooo, how much water do you use for that? When I make it in a skillet, I just my diy taco seasoning to the meat as it cooks… no water needed.

      Hi Jose-
I would use a homemade seasoning recipe that requires water. Otherwise the flavor will become diluted because you will need a minimum of 1 cup of liquid to reach pressure. Hope that helps!

I am wondering what, if anything, you would do differently to brown plain hamburger.using the Foodi?
