How to Make Mississippi Loose Meat Sandwiches in a Slow Cooker
What are “Mississippi” Recipes?
Cris here.
Long time readers know we love us some Mississippi-style recipes. Truth be told, I don’t fully know the origin of this type of recipe or if it really came from Mississippi. But here online, folks refer to recipes that combine the flavors of au jus gravy with ranch mix, pepperoncinis and butter Mississippi-style.
We decided to combine these flavors in a sandwich inspired by one of our favorite sandwiches on the site: Crock Pot Italian Loose Meat Sandwiches
The results were incredible! Mikey kept telling me it was restaurant quality. I am definitely saving this recipe for the next party we have. It will be an easy recipe to double to feed a crowd.
HOW TO MAKE MISSISSIPPI Loose Meat Sandwiches LOW CARB
While not everyone is comfortable using pre-made packets in their low carb diet, we enjoy this recipe and other Mississippi-style recipes in our low carb menu from time to time by substituting the traditional ranch packet for a dill ranch packet or chive and onion packet. Both reduce the carb counts for the entire recipe by 16 carbs. Additionally we make sure to use AuJus Gravy packets instead of higher carb gravy packets– this typically makes the carb count at least 1/4 of what it would be.
For recipes that involve sandwiches, we either eat as a salad, on a low carb bun, in a low carb tortilla or low carb lavash wrap.
You can find these packets in almost any grocery store in the salad dressing aisle and gravy/sauces aisle. We also have them in our Amazon Recommendations under Low Carb Kitchen Favorites.
Always double check all nutritional information whether buying online or in the store. Like we always say on the blog, carb counts are ALWAYS going to be dependent on the exact ingredients you use– not the recipe itself.
