How to Make Pizza Burgers in a Crock Pot
Cris here.
The other night my family was trying to decide where we wanted to go out to eat and my seven year old– Miss Add– kept insisting that we stay home and have leftovers. This is HIGHLY unlike Miss Add. My husband was completely confused…. I on the other hand knew she was eyeing the leftovers of the Crock Pot Pizza Burgers we had the night before while Daddy was gone. Miss Add lost the vote and we went out that evening. But she was quick to call dibs the next day for her lunch and her father decided to join in on the leftovers as well. He took one bite and without skipping a beat he looked at me and said “Well NOW I know why she didn’t want to go out to eat last night!”
I for one just love recipes like this one. We found the original recipe for it in Gooseberry Patch’s new Mom Knows Best Cookbook and just added our favorite pizza toppings and then we served them up on buns with those fantastic super slim mozzarella slices that melt into perfection every time!
I love the non-stick surface of this slow cooker for recipes like this, however, any 4-6qt slow cooker will work just fine. If you are thinking about a new slow cooker, I recently purchased an all-in-one slow cooker that has a browning setting to allow you to brown your ground beef IN the crock pot. I have to tell you I think I am in love. It was SO nice and would be a perfect gift for a college student or someone who may not always have access to a full kitchen. LOVE it!

Just put this in the crockpot! Everything smells wonderful! My grandma always taught me that no matter what the ingredients, if you like em, it’s already a winner! Thanks for the excellent pizza burger idea!
Your grandma sounds like my kind of lady Heather! I hope you enjoyed it!
Hi! This seems to be more of a “sloppy joe” type recipe. Did I miss a step? Do you shape them into patties, brown them and then complete cooking in the slow cooker?
Hi Dorothy- It is definitely a loose meat sandwich. Hope that clears things up.
I wil try this for a dinner with my husband. Why would you need to cook this for 4 hours? All the ingredients are already cooked, and you are just heating it up, right?
Hi Kate-
Oftentimes when cooking a dish with pre-cooked ingredients the cooking time is to allow for the flavors to meld. You can serve as early as it is heated through, however, the flavors will combine more fully if you cook a bit longer. It is totally up to you. Enjoy!
Have you tried freezing this and then reward it in the crock pot? Thank you!
Hi Amanda-
I haven’t but I see no reason why it wouldn’t hold up. Great idea!
Love using my crock pot for alot of different things,I have 5 crock pots differnt sizes. I love the bag liners they have for the c-pots, they are great & saves alot of clean up time & mess
