How to Make Salisbury Steak in a Slow Cooker
Now updated with a video from Mikey.
Cris here.
I just love great comfort food, don’t you? This is one of my very favorite ground beef recipes. (Psst…if you only want two servings, check out our Crock Pot Salisbury Steak for Two recipe.)
Ingredients Needed
1 lb Lean Ground Beef
2 Eggs
1 pkg Onion Soup/Dip Mix
2 Cans Golden Mushroom Soup
Notes on Crock Pot Salisbury Steak
- I made this in my Casserole Crock Pot and while it is only 3 1/2 quarts, it does allow for the Salisbury Steaks to cook spread out, so they may cook up faster or slower in your regular crock pot. As with ANY new recipe, I always recommend that you try this recipe with plenty of time (and a watchful eye) to see how long it takes YOUR slow cooker to cook this up.
- With that said, you should be able to make this with any size slow cooker. If you need to stack your steaks a bit, just make sure you slather gravy in between them so they don’t stick too much.
- I used Golden Mushroom Soup in this recipe. You can use regular Cream of Mushroom Soup if you like. The Golden Mushroom Soup just has an added beefy flavor. If you don’t like to use soups, this probably isn’t the recipe for ya 😉 You might like our Homestyle Pork Chops instead (or you could use the gravy part of that recipe in this recipe…)

- All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline. Recipes should always be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

Made the Salisbury Steak as per the recipe and was delicious! So easy to do!
Served it with white rice and used the golden mushroom drippings as gravy.
When I try a new recipe and it doesn’t go over very well, the family rules are to say: “It was good, Mom, but let’s not have it for a long, long time.”
Well, the only comment I got for this recipe was: “When can you make it again?”
Thanks for making the end of a long day at work easier by making such a simple and terrific dish!
Love that!! Thanks for sharing!
This Salisbury steak for the crock pot was a home run (Since we are now into the baseball season). One of the family is not a red meat favorable food person, nor anything that seems like meat loaf, but the first words out of her mouth, were,”This is very good and tasty! I really like this.”
So, thanks for a great meal idea for last night’s supper. This will be a return item for us.
It was easy to pull it together. No problems with ingredients or timing, oh I did mine for two and a half hours. Again, thanks.
So glad you enjoyed it Nancy!!
I use cream of onion soup instead of cream of mushroom (one bad mushroom and two days in the hospital will ruin your whole outlook on mushrooms) for this. Other than that I didn’t change a thing. These were delicious.
I can’t remember the last time I have had Salisbury steak but will be trying this very soon.
I tried this last week and it is great! Be sure to use LEAN (93%) hamburger. I did not and my steaks shrunk to about 80% of original size. I also used a 6 qt. regular crock so as to have enough room to lay out flat 5 large steaks on the bottom of the crock. I think a 4 qt. cooker would be way to small (just sayin’). I cooked it for 3 hrs. because I had 5 large patties. It came out perfectly done.
Hi there from sunny South Africa!
Please could you indicate whether the cans of soup are “condensed”, i.e. add milk or water, or “heat and eat”?
We unfortunately don’t have your variety or brands of soups here.
Love your recipes 🙂
Hi Jeanette-
The soups listed are condensed soups. The mix is an envelope. Enjoy!

I’m so excited to see a recipe for the Casserole Crock. Do you have others? The booklet that came with it gave me a few ideas…but I want more.
Hi Suzie!
YES! We love our casserole crock! Here are some great recipes to try: http://www.recipesthatcrock.com/category/uses-casserole-crock/
I have a regular 6 quart crock. How long should I cook this, since it’s larger then yours.
