Those of you that have been following along have noticed I have been cooking a quite a bit out of my friend Mary’s new cookbookย Deep South Dish: Homestyle Southern Recipesย (thanks for sending me a copy Mary!)

Then we loved this twist to our regular crock pot whole chicken.

Since then, I have been flipping through all the sections marking my MUST-TRY list.

Mary’s recipes remind me of home. They always take that small extra step or two that seem to make such a difference. Her recipes are full on flavor and perfect for beginning or experienced cooks that are wanting to createย dishes that your family will not only love, but also remember.

  6. My favorite is the one that leaves me with lots of time for the other million things I must do in my day other than cook…LOL…all kidding aside it is meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

  7. I remember the pork roast & veggies that my mom made. I haven’t found the recipe she used in her recipe box, so I’ll add this to my collection.

    Got to be chuck roast with veggies and gravy! Must have cornbread with that!

    Don’t know if she makes this or not but wish she did its liver and onion mom make it all the time growing up in the 50 so would love to see it in a slow cooker book thank you

  15. Pot Roast, mashed potatoes/gravy and lots of carrots. Meal made in heaven. My mom would put fresh dill in her mashed potatoes. Top the meal all off with a huge glass of ice cold milk. ๐Ÿ™‚ Don’t forget that “Mom Hug” to let you know all is right with the world.

    Hands down…. meatloaf and mashed potatoes with homemade biscuits and apple butter!

    Grilled Backyard Barbecue Chicken is something I have always aspired to do correctly and usually failed miserably at. This new recipe will prove extremely useful in making my outdoor parties move beyond the steak, hot dogs and hamburgers that have become my norm.

  19. My favorite meal that reminds me of home is the red beans ( pinto beans) with diced salt pork added and then we had Chinese taco’s and a chief salad. Oh so good. I really miss those family meals.
