Aunt Lou here.

I have never tried a recipe with canned potatoes before. I was a bit leary to tell you the truth. However, this Mommy needed an easy recipe, and it doesn’t get much easier than this Creamy Crock Pot Bacon Potatoes recipe I found inย Gooseberry Patchโ€™s Weeknight Dinners. As soon as Michael tasted them, he said they were quite possibly the best potatoes he had ever had. When I told him they were from a can, he didn’t believe me at first! My guess is that your friends and family will love these potatoes just as much as mine do!

  1. Another winner! I eat potatoes a lot and am always looking for something different to do with them. This was quite good! I used cubed russets instead of canned potatoes and plain yogurt instead of sour cream because that’s what was on hand. Worked fine. Toyed around with idea of adding cajun seasoning or black pepper but decided not to for the first go with this recipe. It was suprisingly flavorful with no added seasonings. Thinking now about subbing kielbasa for the bacon and adding some frozen or canned corn to make a meal of this.

This looks delicious and can’t wait to try it. I do have a question, How long would you have to cook this on Low? Thanks for any help you can give me. Have a Merry Christmas and God Bless You and Your Family.

      Hi Joann!

I haven’t tried cooking this on low yet, but, in general, you double the high cooking times to go to low. So you might try 8 hours. However, since I haven’t tried it myself, make sure you watch it closely the first time you make it on low.

I hope that helps. Merry Christmas and God bless you and yours!

I think you could use fresh potatoes if you precook them a bit. May try it with them! Thanks for the recipe!

      Hi SA!

I haven’t tried it with fresh potatoes, but it should work. It will change your cooking time though, so watch it closely the first time you try it. Enjoy!

  4. This looks so good with the exception of the celery soup. Neither my husband or myself can stand anything with celery. I really want to try this recipe. Could I use cream of mushroom or chicken instead?

Your Creamy Crock Pot Bacon Potatoes sounds delicious. I am wondering if it would be possible to use peeled potatoes instead of the canned potatoes. If I am would I need to adjust any of the other ingredients.

Love your recipes. Thank you for giving all of us these recipes to share with our family and friends.

      Hi Laurie!

I haven’t tried this recipe with peeled potatoes, but think it would work. There is quite a bit of liquid in this recipe, so I don’t think you will need to adjust the ingredients, but you might need to lengthen the cook time a bit. If you give it try, let me know how it turns out!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so glad you enjoy the recipes!
