How to Make Crispy Mississippi Chicken in a Ninja Foodi
Cris here.
As you guys know, we LOVE Mississippi Chicken (and beef and pork) around here! So the other day when a reader asked if we could do a bone-in chicken version, I got to thinking it would be perfect for a Foodi Friday and really show off some of the advantages of using the Ninja Foodi with its ability to pressure cook AND air fry in the same unit.
The results of this recipe is a super tender chicken with a rotisserie like crispy skin. It actually tastes like a Mississippi-Style Rotisserie Chicken- yum!
Ninja Foodi Crispy Mississippi Chicken Notes
- While we used a Ninja Foodi to make this recipe, you could use any pressure cooker (or slow cook for a longer period of time) and then broil afterwards if you do not have air frying capabilities.
- We used bone in thighs for this recipe. You could also use chicken legs or other bone-in, skin on cuts. (Cooking times may vary.)
- The crispy skin on this Mississippi Chicken reminds me of rotisserie style chicken. In the video, we air crisp for 7 minutes, however we have tested up to 10 minutes and the chicken did not dry out.
General Notes
- We’ve tested this recipe in a 6.5 quart Ninja Foodi. When pressure cooking with larger pressure cookers, you may need to add 1/2 cup to 1 cup more liquid to reach pressure. Make sure not to overfill smaller pressure cookers past their max lines.

- As with any of our recipes, carb counts, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly. As a result, your nutritional content depends on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish. The auto-calculation is just an automated estimate and should NOT be used for specific dietary needs.
- Finally, all electric pressure cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline. Recipes should always be tested first in your own electric pressure cooker and time adjusted as needed.

How do I make Mississippi Chicken Low Carb?
While not everyone is comfortable using pre-made packets in their low carb diet, we enjoy Mississippi Chicken as an easy low carb dinner from time to time by watching ranch packet labels to find the lowest carb count we can (they change all the time!). Additionally we make sure to use AuJus Gravy packets instead of higher carb gravy packets– this typically makes the carb count at least 1/4 of what it would be.
You can find these packets in almost any grocery store in the salad dressing aisle and gravy/sauces aisle. We also have them in our Amazon Recommendations under Low Carb Kitchen Favorites.
Like we always say on the blog, carb counts are ALWAYS going to be dependent on the exact ingredients you use– not the recipe itself.
