Those of you that have been following along have noticed I have been cooking a quite a bit out of my friend Mary’s new cookbookย Deep South Dish: Homestyle Southern Recipesย (thanks for sending me a copy Mary!)

Crock Pot Cajun Chicken: Easy family dinner idea! Great twist on your traditional whole chicken recipe.

Then we loved this twist to our regular crock pot whole chicken.

Since then, I have been flipping through all the sections marking my MUST-TRY list.

Mary’s recipes remind me of home. They always take that small extra step or two that seem to make such a difference. Her recipes are full on flavor and perfect for beginning or experienced cooks that are wanting to createย dishes that your family will not only love, but also remember.

  1. I love Pork roast and vegetables. My mom used to make it in the oven, would love crock pot recipe
    so it could cook while I am at work. How great to come home to meals already cooked.

    I remember fried chicken, the best brown soup beans you’ll ever eat, mashed potatoes and homemade cornbread! My most favorite ever! Us kids sit on a long bench at our grandmothers table, locked our ankles together, and swung our feet as we ate. A favorite memory of mine!

  11. The perfect southern dish for me is fresh peas, butterbeans, cream corn, fried okra and sliced tomatoes. Don’t need any meat, just enjoying the vegetables. Maybe some Banana Pudding for dessert.

  14. My Grand Mother’s All Day Pot Roast cooked in a cast iron Dutch Oven. Slow and steady won the race with this dish.

  19. Fresh vegetable dinners, as my cousin called them…fried okra, stewed squash, some kind of peas, sliced tomatoes, mashed potatoes and some kind of meat. All the veggies were from my Dad’s garden and cooked with love by my Mom.
