Those of you that have been following along have noticed I have been cooking a quite a bit out of my friend Mary’s new cookbookย Deep South Dish: Homestyle Southern Recipesย (thanks for sending me a copy Mary!)

Then we loved this twist to our regular crock pot whole chicken.

Since then, I have been flipping through all the sections marking my MUST-TRY list.

Mary’s recipes remind me of home. They always take that small extra step or two that seem to make such a difference. Her recipes are full on flavor and perfect for beginning or experienced cooks that are wanting to createย dishes that your family will not only love, but also remember.

    Chicken and dumplings all the way for me, honey! Love my childhood memories with my great aunt Ruth out in the farming community when I was growing up. Boy, she was the BEST COOK ever!

    I would have to say the Cajun Chicken! After living in Louisiana for five years and now back in New England, I love the cajun flavor!!!!

  7. The recipe that excited me last year was turkey with cranberry sauce.

    What reminds me of home? I’d have to say slow roasted BBQ ribs and sauerkraut. Or pork roast with canadles!

    We grew up on a farm. So there are lots of things that remind me of the farm that we do not make anymore. One of my favorites was Chicken and Dumplings – this is NOT healthy. It was made with good old Crisco.

  18. my mothers pineapple pudding ! I have always disliked bananas and she would make me this it is a lot similar to banana pudding except she used pineapple. No one I know has ever heard of it – must be a Georgia thing lol I remember it had egg white meringue and she cooked it in the oven.I would die for some it ! Unfortunately she passed away when I was young and I didn’t get any of her recipes. The saying is true no one cooks like your mother !

    Every Sunday, it was Fried Chicken with all the sides of mashed potatoes and green beans; take me back to my childhood.

  20. Loved pork chop Tuesdays when I was a kid, also green bean casserole and cheesy potatoes, also made that meal for my kids when they all were at home now its still pork chop Tuesday for 2.

    Any of the chicken dishes because we raised chickens and that was our go to meat.

    Growing up we didn’t have a lot, but we knew come Sunday we would have Fried Chicken,Potato Salad,Green Beans and my mama’s homemade Buttermilk Biscuits.And I would’nt trade those memories for anything.

    Chicken and dumplings rolled out fresh, sweet potato biscuits, string beans from the garden, mashed potatoes with lumps, macaroni and cheese with stewed tomatoes on top. A Sunday favorite sure do miss those days.
