Aunt Lou here.

To be honest, I have only had a pierogi once before. It was a LONG time ago, so I didn’t really remember anything about it. All I remembered was the name, and I liked it. So as I was flipping through my cookbook looking for a recipe, Easy Pierogi Casserole caught my eye.

Easy Pierogi Casserole

When I asked Michael if he would like this Easy Pierogi Casserole, he was very excited. You see, years ago, he was in the Navy and stationed in California. There he had a neighbor that made pierogies and shared them with him. He went on and on about how wonderful they were, so I was a bit nervous if I could live up to his memories of pierogies with my first attempt. Well, this Easy Pierogi Casserole lived up to the hype of Michael’s memories!

Slow Cooker Recommendation

I used myย 9 x13 casserole slow cookerย for this yummy Easy Pierogi Casserole. For a non-casserole crock pot, I would use at least a 5 quart. The layers add up quick!

  1. Hi there!
Do you think this can be made without cooking the noodles first, and it come out fine? 8 hrs is a long time for precooked noodles. Would you suggest adding any additional liquid?

Thank you so much, I love your blog!!

Thank you for your kind words Dana! I haven’t tried this without cooking the noodles first. Without trying it out first myself, I hesitate to make recommendations on how much liquid to add. If you give it a try, let me know how much liquid you use and any other adjustments you make. I’m sure it will help out other readers as well!

I was imagining the potatoes to turn to mashed, but they did not. Mine also burnt, but my crockpot settings must be different. Mine doesn’t look pretty that’s for sure.

      Hi Mandy!

I’m so sorry this did not turn out for you! In mine and Cris’ experience, the way slow cookers cook can vary greatly by brand and model. As a rule of thumb, when I am trying out a recipe for the first time (which is often!), I do it when I can watch it closely. Sometimes I need to shorten the time. Other times, I need lengthen the time. And on occasion, I need to give my crock a turn about halfway through (gotta love those crocks that cook hotter on one side!). If you give this a try again, I would suggest doing it when you can watch it closely. I sounds like your slow cooker cooks hotter than the one I used. If you watch it closely, you can know how to adjust the recipe for your specific slow cooker. I hope you found something yummy to make this weekend and eat with those you love!

  3. Doesn’t the pasta get over- cooked, since you pre-cook them?
