How to Make Buffalo Chicken Wings in a Ninja Foodi

Cris here.

The other day when we shared our very popular Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Wings recipe, readers began asking us for a way to make these incredible wings in an electric pressure cooker. So, we got in the kitchen and adapted the recipe. We love using our Ninja Foodi in particular for this recipe because you can do the optional broiler step in the Foodi! However, if you don’t have a Foodi, you can use any electric pressure cooker and then crisp up the wings in your oven broiler (or air fryer).

Why Pressure Cook Wings If You Are Going To Air Fry?

You might be asking yourself, why do we pressure cook these wings if we are going to air fry them to crisp the skin. The answer comes down to your preference for texture and tenderness. Pressure cooking chicken wings, much like slow cooking, produces a VERY tender wing but the skin is not crisp. The broiling or air frying step after pressure cooking allows you to have a very tender wing with crisp skin. Air frying alone produces a firmer wing that mimics the wings you would get at a wing restaurant. So, it all comes down to your personal preference and how much time you have.

Electric Pressure Cooker Buffalo Chicken Wings (Low Carb Option) Notes:

  • Here is the Slow Cooker version if you do not have an electric pressure cooker: Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Wings.
  • We have tested this recipe in our Ninja Foodi but you can use any 6-8 quart electric pressure cooker for the pressure cooker step of this recipe and an air fryer or oven broiler if you desire the crisping step.
  • If you are using an 8-quart Instant Pot, you may need to use a half cup more liquid to make sure your Instant Pot will come up to pressure.
  • We made this recipe low carb by using a low sugar beer. If you do not want to use beer, you could also use chicken broth.
  • You can find more electric pressure cooker recipes with our Recipe Finder.
  • More Ninja Foodi Recipes? You can find them here. You can also make any of our Instant Pot Recipes and Air Fryer Recipes in the Ninja Foodi.
  • Looking for more recipes? Our Recipe Finder can help you find exactly what you need.
  • Check out all our favorite recommendations for cookbooks, slow cookers and low carb essentials in our Amazon Influencer Shop.
  • As with any of our recipes, carb counts, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly. As a result, your nutritional content depends on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish. The auto-calculation is just an automated estimate and should NOT be used for specific dietary needs.
  • All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline. Recipes should always be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs frozen chicken wing pieces
  • 1 1/2 cup Frank's Hot Sauce or favorite hot sauce, divided
  • 1 1/2 cup butter divided
  • 1 cup low carb beer or chicken broth

Instructions

  • Place wings in electric pressure cooker
  • Melt one cup of butter into one cup of hot sauce and stir until completely combined
  • Stir one cup of beer into sauce
  • Pour sauce over wings
  • Cook under high pressure for 12 minutes.
  • Naturally release for 15 minutes. Meanwhile turn on your broiler, if using an oven for optional crisping step.
  • Melt 1/2 cup butter into 1/2 cup hot sauce and stir
  • Toss wings in sauce to coat generously with sauce

Optional Crisping Step

  • If using an oven place wings in broiler for 4-5 minutes, checking frequently so they don't burn. If using the Ninja Foodi or air fryer, air fry for 10 minutes at 390. Recoat in sauce if desired.

The…se look DELICIOUS!!! I enjoyed the video, always nice to see Aunt Lou pop in to do some cooking and cutting up with Mikey. I’ll forgive the 1/2 paper towel…Wing, Wing, Wing…LOL We like crispy, juicy wings so I’ll probably make extra sauce to pour over them at the end.
