How to Make Dehydrated Apples in a Ninja Foodi

Aunt Lou here.

My family loves many different kinds of dehydrated fruit. Apple slices are in our top three for sure. However, buying dehydrated fruit for a family of four can get quite pricey. When I bought my Ninja Foodi, I saw that it had a dehydrator function and could not wait to figure out how to make these Ninja Foodi Dehydrated Apples.

I researched a bunch of different recipes and saw quite a few different ways to do it. I saw recipes where they had you soaking the apple slices in a lemon juice and water solution to keep them from browning while dehydrating. I gave it a try. Then I tried again skipping that step. Guess what! I didn’t see a difference in the coloring between the ones I soaked and the ones I did not soak. So, I just skip that step now. Less work and less dirty dishes! I ended up going my own way with timing and temperature on for this recipe to get the apple slices just how we like them. I hope you enjoy this easy recipe as much as we do!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Wash your apple and pat it dry.
  • Slice the apple into even slices that are between 1/4 inch and 1/8th inch thick, (I used a mandolin slicer to keep my slices uniform), cut the stems off any slices with stems and pat your slices as dry as you can with a paper towel. (The seeds will easily fall out once dehydrated.)
  • Put your crisper plate in your Ninja Foodi insert and lay as many slices on the crisper plate as you can without overlapping and leaving room for the feet of the nesting rack.
  • Place your nesting rack on top of the crisper plate and lay your remaining apples slices evenly on the rack, without overlapping.
  • Closer the lid of your Ninja Foodi, turn it on, select Dehydrate, set the temperature to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, set the time to 9 hours and press start.
  • When the cooking time is up, remove the apple slices and lay them on a cooling rack for about a half hour before storing in an air tight container or baggie.
