How to Make Cheesy Salsa Smoked Sausage Rice in an Oven
Aunt Lou here.
When I first made this Cheesy Salsa Smoked Sausage Rice in my crock pot, my family loved it. Since then, our readers have really enjoyed it as well. So, I thought it was time for me to give this a try in the oven. The result was a delicious dish that is super simple to make.
For this recipe, and any recipe where I use long cooking rice, I used basmati rice. It seems to do really well in casseroles both in the oven and the crock pot. I included the step of rinsing the rice because I have found that it does better when cooking it in a casserole in the crock pot or oven. I highly recommend not skipping this step. We love basmati so much that we buy it in bulk. It has a long shelf life if stored properly and is cheaper when buying it in bulk.
