How to Make Beer Chicken in a Crock Pot
Aunt Lou here.
It isn’t camping season in good ol’ southern Indiana right now. When it is camping season here, Mikey usually makes us some yummy beer chicken over the campfire. They are always a hit! So, I called him up and asked him for his recipe. It honestly reminded me of asking Momma for a recipe. He had a couple of steps that he always does but just wings it on the seasonings. So, I thought I would follow his lead and give it a try. The results of this Crock Pot Beer Chicken were wonderful!
The seasonings in the Dash Original Seasoning Blend are very flavorful. I hadn’t ever used this kind of seasoning before, and was pleasantly surprised at how all of the spices come together. You can use just the seasoning or salt to taste. Either way is delicious, so you can do whatever works for your particular tastes!
If you want crisp skin, which we did, I have included the broiling step. Any time I broil something, I do not leave the broiler while it is in there. I learned the hard way that a very short amount of time with me not watching what I have in my broiler can take a recipe from perfect crispness to burnt mess. So, turn your oven light on and watch your chicken the whole time you are broiling so you can have a perfect chicken to serve!

Crock Pot Beer Chicken
Ingredients
- 4 lb Whole Chicken
- 1/4 cup butter melted, divided
- 2 tablespoons Dash original seasoning blend
- 16 oz can of beer
Instructions
- Place your roasting chicken in a 6 quart crock pot.
- Take your melted butter and rub it in under the skin of your chicken and on top of your chicken skin.
- Rub your Dash original blend seasoning under the skin of your chicken and on top of the skin of your chicken and salt to taste, if desired.
- Open your 16 oz can of beer, pick up your chicken, place the can upright in your crock pot and slide the chicken down onto the can with the open part of the can on the side that will be up when you lay your chicken down. Gently lay the chicken bottom side down in your crock pot. (Some of the beer will come out of the can into the inside of your chicken. That is okay. You have the mouth of the can on the top side so not too much spills out.)
- Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours.
- *The chicken and the can will be extremely hot.* Carefully remove the beer can from the chicken using heat protective gloves.
- If crispy skin is desired, place your chicken in a broiler safe baking dish and broil on high for 3-4 minutes, until desired crispness has been reached. (Do NOT walk away while your chicken is in the broiler. In a broiler, your chicken can go from perfection to burnt in a very short amount of time. So you will want to watch it continually while it is in the broiler.)
