Crock Pot Sloppy Joe Cheeseburgers Notes:
- This recipe is from Crock Pot’s The Original Slow Cooker Recipe Collection.
- We used our browning slow cooker since we needed to brown the ground beef, but feel free to use any 6 quart slow cooker and just brown in the skillet ahead of time.
- Choosing a ground beef with less fat will reduce the amount of draining you have to do after the browning step. These Crock Pot Sloppy Joe Cheeseburgers pack the flavor and don’t need the added fat unless that is your preference.
- I have edited the recipe to say that the water is optional because we have forgotten it from time to time and it still comes out yummy.

I use ground turkey & leave out the garlic. My super picky husband eats this for breakfast lunch and dinner until it’s gone. Love it!
Oh so glad to hear you guys enjoy it as much as we do, Susan!
Hi Susan, thanks for the suggestion for ground turkey. We do not eat ground turkey, so I do need to try the meatless products and see if it works. If anyone else has tried, please let me know! Thanks!
I would like to use this recipe with a ground beef substitute – such as Beyond Meat, Gardein, Boca or something similar. Do you think that the recipe will work the same or do I need to make any other changes? We do not eat beef or pork, but love to crock. Thank you, Sue
Hi Sue-
I really couldn’t say because we haven’t tested those products in our slow cookers. If you try it, we’d love to know how it goes.
It won’t over cook being in the crockpot for so long after cooking in the pan?
Hi Michelle-
We always advise watching a new recipe closely in your own slow cooker. If you crock pot cooks really hot, you may want to reduce time. Enjoy!
Can the whole thing be done in the pan since you’re cooking the whole thing before putting it in the crock pot?
Sure! It will likely have a little bit of a different taste since the flavors won’t cook together as long, however, it will still be super yummy! Enjoy!
We loved these. Just so tasty and couldn’t be easier. Made plenty for dinner plus a couple lunches as well. A definite keeper!
Since I am already cooking the beef in a skillet could I just cook it all without putting it in the crockpot?
Could leftovers be frozen?
Hi Linda- I have never had enough leftovers to try! Everyone here eats them right up! If you try it, let me know how it goes. Enjoy!
Thanks for this recipe, looks delicious. In the crock pot now. Smells so good!
