How to Make Ham and Swiss Sliders in a Crock Pot

Youtube video

Aunt Lou here.

I remember the first time I went to a party and saw these yummy looking little slider sandwiches and tried one. I am a bit of a picky eater, so I was a little afraid to try them. However, I gave them a try and loved them! As you know, we love trying out recipes in a crock pot, and this Crock Pot Ham and Swiss Sliders did not disappoint!

When we make a recipe that is not usually considered a crock pot recipe in our crock pot, we are often asked why anyone would use a crock pot. For this recipe, it is a great way to take a dish to a potluck or make it while on vacation. I am all about convenience!

The broiling step is completely optional. These sliders are just as delicious at the end of their cooking time in the crock pot as they are after they are taken out of the broiler. It is entirely up to you. If you do want to do the broiler step, watch them continually. The first time I made them, I looked away just less than a minute (I know better!) and ended up with burnt tops. Learn from my mistake!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Place all the rolls on a large cutting board and take a large knife to slice all your rolls in half at the same time (do not break them apart) and gently remove the tops as one big piece.
  • Layer ham slices on the bottom halves of the rolls that are still all connected.
  • Layer Swiss cheese slices across the top of the ham.
  • As one piece, place the top halves of your rolls back on top of the bottom part of the sliders.
  • Pick up the cutting board and gently slide the sliders as one large loaf off the cutting board and into a casserole crock pot.
  • In a small bowl or coffee cup, mix together remaining ingredients.
  • Brush the tops of the sliders with the butter mixture liberally with a basting brush.
  • Cover and cook on high for 1.5 to 2 hours, turning your insert halfway through if your slow cooker doesn't cook evenly.
  • If desired and your insert is broiler safe, place your rolls on the lower rack in your oven with your broiler on high for 30-60 seconds to crisp up the tops. (Watch continually and do not walk away. You can go from perfection to burnt very quickly in a broiler.)
  • Cut the sliders apart and serve

  1. Should there be butter in the recipe directions? There is none listed, and I am not sure how the mustard, poppy seeds and dried onions would stick to the sandwiches without it…?

I’m so sorry about that mistake Donna! You are absolutely correct. There is a half a cup of melted butter. I have updated the recipe card. Thank you for bringing to my attention so I could fix it. I hope you enjoy these as much as we do!
