How to Make Ham Steak and Potatoes in a Crock Pot
Aunt Lou here.
I have always loved Momma’s fried potatoes, and I recently found out that Momma does not use any butter or oil to fry her potatoes. I swear I looked like a minion saying, “Whaaaaaaaaat?!” While I was chatting with Momma, she reminded me of one of my favorite recipes she makes in her electric skillet. So, it was then and there that I decided I wanted to try and cRock that yummy recipe, and now you have this amazing Crock Pot Ham Steak and Potatoes!
When you see this recipe, you might think I got the recipe wrong. There are exactly TWO ingredients in this recipe. I called Momma up to ask if I needed to add salt and pepper or any other seasonings before I put this one. She said she does not. The flavors from the ham give the potatoes all the seasoning they need. Brilliant! (If you have not figured it out yet, Momma is a genius in the kitchen!)
I made this in my Casserole Crock Pot. If you do not have a casserole crock pot, a 6 quart crock pot will do just fine. As always, make sure you watch it closely (whichever kind of crock pot you use) so you can know how long it takes with your specific unit. This isn’t advice Cris and I give to you, but don’t use ourselves. We tell you this because we both have many (too many if you ask our husbands lol) crock pots and know that each one will cook the same recipe differently.

Crock Pot Ham Steak and Potatoes
Ingredients
- 3 medium Russet Potatoes peeled and sliced
- 1.5 lbs ham steak
Instructions
- Spread your potato slices evenly across the bottom of a casserole crock pot or 6 quart crock pot.
- Place your ham steak on top of your potato slices.
- Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 2.5-3 hours.
- Halfway through cooking, use tongs to place your ham steak on a plate and use a fork to stir your potatoes (bring the potatoes from the outside to the inside and vice versa, as well as the potatoes on bottom to the top and vice versa). Put the ham steak back on top of your potatoes, replace the lid and let it cook for the remainder of the time. It is done when your potatoes are fork tender.
