How to Make Easy Drop Chicken Dumplings on a Stove Top

Aunt Lou here.

This Easy Drop Chicken Dumplings recipe is the recipe mine and Cris’ momma made when we were kids. However, this recipe did not start with her. My great grandma passed this recipe down to my grandma who passed it down to my mom who passed it down to me. It is simple. It is quick. It is straight up comfort food.

Momma taught me a couple of things with this recipe. First, she taught me to stack some biscuits and cut them all together before separating them out. It makes cutting the biscuits go so much faster. Second, she taught me that the more I stir my drop dumplings as I cooked them, the thicker the liquid with my chicken and dumplings would be. Since I like a thick liquid, I tend to stir quite a bit, but that is completely up to your preference. I hope these tips help you and that you love this recipe as much as I do.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Put 2.5 lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs, 4 cups Low Sodium Chicken Broth, Salt and Pepper to taste and 2 cups water in a large pot and bring to a boil.
  • While the chicken is cooking, cut 22.5 oz tube refrigerated biscuits into quarters, separate and set aside.
  • Once the chicken is cooked through, reduce heat to medium heat (leaving the pot of liquid on the burner while you shred the chicken), shred with two forks in a large bowl and return to the pot.
  • Add the quartered biscuits to the pot, gently stirring as you add them. (The more you stir, the thicker the liquid will be.)
  • Cook for 5-7 minutes, until dumplings reach your desired texture.
