How to Make Chicken and Dumplings in a Crock Pot
Aunt Lou here.
I love chicken and dumplings. It is a childhood favorite of mine. I can remember Momma making these Drop Chicken ‘n Dumplins when I was a kid and later found out that it was actually my Grandma’s recipe. You see my Grandma had 6 kids, so she knew how to cook for a crowd and make things easy. (Smart lady!)
Mom has always told me I am a lot like Grandma, and I take that as high praise. She has jokingly called me Elsie Jane (Grandma’s name) many times over the years…usually when we were on vacation or out and about, and I was talking with a perfect stranger and always ended up finding out their life story, but I also share a love for recipes that make life easier and are wonderfully delicious.

When I ran across these Crock Pot Chicken and Dumplings in 303 Simple and Satisfying Recipes, I saw that they used the same great trick my Grandma used for her dumplings and thought I should give it a try!

Has anyone ever substituted the water for chicken broth?
I haven’t tried that Elizabeth. However, think you probably could. It would take away some of the flavor. If you give it a try, let me know how it turns out.
Aunt Lou
I have tried this recipe twice and the biscuits do not cook. I end up with goo on top of my chicken.
Hmmmm….not sure why the biscuits didn’t cook up for you. It should have cooked them and the dumplings should have been mixed in with the chicken and not on top. I’m sorry this recipe didn’t work for you. I hope you can find a recipe that you love in our over 1000 recipes!
