This looks great! Is there a way to add veggies, either baby carrots r green beans specifically? How would that change ingredients/cook time? Thanks so much for all the great recipes–big fans in my house! Because of your site I stopped being scared of my crockpot and now I confidently cook with it–and even invent my own recipes, and even use multiple different crocks–all the time! Thanks again!
I haven’t tried this with the addition of carrots or green beans. If I did, I would probably add more broth and cut the baby carrots into slices. The cooking time would be similar. As always with a new recipe, watch it closely the first time you make it so you can make adjustments as needed. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so glad you have found confidence in cooking and creating recipes! That makes my heart very happy!

I’m so glad we could help Sharon! Momma made this recipe up out of things she had in her cabinet first without dumplings, and told me about it. She said she thought it would be good with dumplings. She was right! SO yummy! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Aunt Lou
Dumplings are not store bought biscuits. Dumplings are so easy to make and biscuits are a poor substitute. .
Hi Eileen,
It is absolutely wonderful that you choose to make your own. However, we share a variety of ways and not every way is going to be everyone’s cup of tea, unfortunately. While we appreciate your preference for homemade, this method is a method our grandma passed down to our mom and our mom to us and we love it.
Happy cRockin!

Aunt Lou,
I commend you. I’d have not be quite that nice. To outright tell someone their recipe and their methods are wrong is downright rude and disgusting. Recipes are very personal and can hold dear memories. Shame on you Eileen Strain! Thank you for sharing with us Aunt Lou!
