How to Make Good Gravy Chicken Noodles in a Crock Pot

Aunt Lou here.

This recipe was an instant hit at Camp Lou-da-Cris. I combined the flavors of our reader favorite Good Gravy Crock Pot Chicken with the timing we have used in previous recipes with frozen homestyle egg noodles. It worked perfectly! This was a big ol’ crock pot of comfort food for this weekend and fed mine and Cris’ families along with Momma and Dad. This would be perfect for a potluck or to feed your family a couple nights!

I have made an adjustment to the recipe for this version of good gravy. I have heard from readers that they have had a hard time finding beefy mushroom soup. Then I started having a hard time finding it. A replacement we have found that works wonderfully is golden mushroom soup. I haven’t had any trouble finding this soup, so I this makes the recipe easier for everyone to make!

What You Will Need

Ingredients Needed

  • 3 lbs boneless, skinless chicken
  • 10.75 oz can golden mushroom soup
  • 10.75 oz can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 oz ranch dip mix
  • 1 oz brown gravy mix packet
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • Pepper Jack Cheese (I used 5 slices, but you can use as little or as much as you like. Adding more slices will make the cooking juices thicker and spicier. Few slices will give you a thinner cooking liquid with a less spicy flavor.)
  • 24 oz frozen, egg noodles, frozen not thawed (I use Reames homestyle frozen egg noodles.)

Equipment Needed

  • Can opener
  • Spoon
  • Measuring cup
  • Two forks
  • Plate or large cutting board
  • Large, sturdy serving spoon
  • 6 quart slow cooker

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 6 to 8 hours on low or 3 to 4 hours on high, plus 30 to 45 minutes on high after shredding the chicken and stirring in the noodles

  1. So, i am allergic to mushrooms, would another soup work as well?

    1. 5 stars
Absolutely! Just use your favorite creamed soups. Enjoy!

My grandkids love this because of no vegetables. Very easy to make and I definitely will again!

  3. I haven’t made this yet, but am going to try as soon as I can get to the grocery store ! I think I will switch the noodles for the packaged dry noodles and cook them on the side .Then add them at the last 10 minutes so they soak up the flavor but don’t get mushy. I have never seen frozen noodles here – will look for them also !

So I did a few switches to this recipe. I used canned chicken breast from Costco to make it easy. Added 1 can of cream of chicken soup, French onion soup dry mix, buttermilk ranch dressing packet, same chicken broth. Basil, thyme, garlic powder & parsley. Cooked the chicken first with the seasonings for 2 hours then added the noodles just like the recipe. Absolutely delicious!

You can find cream of onion soup, cream of celery, soup, cream of chicken soup. I have also used an immersion blender to dice up the mushrooms until they are the size of black pepper flakes so you donโ€™t even know they are there none of us and my family Likes cooked mushrooms. Itโ€™s a texture thing for us. But if you donโ€™t like the flavor of mushrooms that would not be recommendation. Also, you can just make a cream sauce (out of cream cheese) or a cheese sauce (like Alfredo sauce).

  6. This was really yummy, but also very salty. I think it was the type broth I used. I did add shredded carrots but wonโ€™t next time. I also used cream of chicken soup as we donโ€™t like mushrooms.

  7. Chelsea Fadden says:

I would like to try this dish with leftover cooked turkey (already sliced/shredded). How long would you cook in the crockpot since meat is already cooked? Thanks!

    1. 5 stars
I have never tried making this recipe with leftover chicken or turkey. I think it could work. If I did, I would probably cook it for at least an hour on high or 2 hours on low before adding the noodles. That way all the flavors could meld together and all your ingredients will be hot enough to cook the noodles when you add them for the additional 30-45 minutes. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

  10. It really looks good, but I am NOT a fan of mushrooms. Any suggestions on a different type of soup?

    1. I’ve made this dish but not this exact recipe but normally use cream of chicken and cream of celery in mine. I haven’t tried it with cream of mushroom but can’t wait to try it out and the add of cheese. ๐Ÿ˜€

    2. Use cream of chicken

  11. Hello have you ever used the homemade noodles that or dry from the shelf?

    1. 5 stars
I have not. If you do, you will want to watch it closely so you can adjust the cooking time of the noodles as needed. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes!
