How to Make Peanut Butter Jelly French Toast in a Crock Pot
Aunt Lou here.
This Peanut Butter Jelly Crock Pot French Toast is a mesh up between Cris’ Peanut Butter Jelly French Toast, Crock Pot Peanut Butter Jelly Casserole and Slow Cooker French Toast Casserole. I wanted to take all of these recipes and make a delicious dish that young and old alike will like. I think you will love what I have done here. I sure hope you love it as much as my family does!
So, I changed some things with this recipe from a standard bread pudding type casserole. Some people complain about the texture of bread pudding casseroles. I wanted to try out a couple different changes to see if that would help out. The first thing I did was use a French baguette instead of a French loaf. The reason I thought this would help with the texture is because you would have more crust on more pieces. (Psst…I was right!) The second thing I did was drain the excess egg mixture off of my bread pieces after I made sure they were really well coated before I let them soak overnight. With these two small changes, I think you will really enjoy this delicious recipe.

Just curious, if I am missing a step.
Once the bread has rested overnight in the fridge, before I place it in the crock pot does it have to be browned at all in the oven or on top the stove? It seems to me just going directly into the crock pot and then adding the remaining ingredients, that I will end up with soggy white bread with a gooey topping through out.
I’m looking forward to making this for my family, especially my grandkids, but I would appreciate a response before I begin.
Thank you, this sounds delicious!
Linda
I did not brown it in the oven prior to putting in my slow cooker, and it was not soggy. With draining the excess milk and egg mixture off of the bread before letting it rest overnight, it keeps the bread more intact and less like a bread pudding type recipe. All of the pieces of bread hold their form quite well and are delicious. Hope you and your grandkids enjoy it as much as we do!
