How to Make Saucy Chicken Legs in a Crock Pot
Aunt Lou here.
My family absolutely loved these Saucy Crock Pot Chicken Legs when I made them. A special bonus with this recipe is that your home will smell amazing! As soon as Michael walked in after work, he said he couldn’t wait to try whatever I was cooking because it smelled so good. He was not disappointed when he tried it, and neither were me and the kids! They were so yummy with just the perfect amount of tanginess.
This recipe is about as close as you can get to a dump and go recipe without it being a dump and go recipe. After mixing together the ingredients for your sauce, it is a dump and go recipe. At the end, I used a parchment paper lined baking sheet to pop the chicken legs in my broiler to crisp them up a bit. It is so simple to do. I hope that you and your loved ones enjoy these delicious legs as much as we do.

What You Will Need for Saucy Crock Pot Chicken Legs
Ingredients Needed
- 12 chicken legs (The weight on my pack was right around 5.5 lbs.)
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup sugar free pancake syrup
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 6 tablespoons steak sauce
- 2 tablespoons chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
Equipment Needed
- Medium mixing bowl
- Whisk
- Measuring cups
- Stirring spatula
- Measuring spoons
- Small container with lid
- 6 quart crock pot
- Tongs
- Large baking sheet
- Parchment Paper
- Basting brush
Time Needed
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cooking Time: 6 to 8 hours on low or 3 to 4 hours on high, turning your insert halfway through cooking if your slow cooker does not cook evenly
- Broiling Time: 3 to 5 minutes on high, turning your baking sheet halfway through broiling if your oven does not heat evenly (Do not leave your chicken legs unattended while they are broiling. Watch them continually so you can pull them out as soon as they reach desired crispness. A recipe can go from perfection to disaster very quickly in a broiler that is on high.)

Saucy Crock Pot Chicken Legs
Ingredients
- 12 chicken legs
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup sugar free pancake syrup
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 6 tablespoons steak sauce
- 2 tablespoons chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
Instructions
- Put all of your ingredients, except your chicken legs, in a mixing bowl and stir together until completely combined. (Put 1/2 cup of your sauce in container with a lid and place it in your fridge. You'll be using it later.)
- Place half of your chicken legs in the bottom of your 6 quart slow cooker, set the rest of your chicken legs aside.
- Pour half of your sauce mixture over the chicken legs in the bottom of your crock pot.
- Place your remaining chicken legs on top of everything and pour the remaining sauce on top of them.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- About 15 minutes before your chicken legs are done, preheat your broiler on high and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Once your broiler is preheated, use tongs to place your chicken legs on the parchment paper and use a basting brush to brush the sauce you set aside in Step 1 onto the chicken legs.
- Broil for 3 to 5 minutes on high, turning your baking sheet halfway through broiling if your oven does not heat evenly (Do not leave your chicken legs unattended while they are broiling. Watch them continually so you can pull them out as soon as they reach desired crispness. A recipe can go from perfection to disaster very quickly in a broiler that is on high.)
