Budget Meal Plan

Meal Planning on a Budget

Aunt Lou here.

If you have been following our budget meal plans or looked around at them a bit, you have probably realized at least a couple things. I like to keep things simple, and I love finding good deals. We are going to be doing both with Budget Meal Plan: Week 47.

This week, we are going to be using generic brands as much as we can. It may seem too simple to really save you money, but 50 cents here and a couple dollars there really add up when you save it on most of the ingredients on your grocery list for your meal plan. You can find generic brands at most (if not all) retail grocery stores. Another option is to go to a discount grocery store. It is easy to find generic brands at stores like Aldis or Ruler Foods or Save-A-Lot or whatever is your local discount grocery store. I have found many generic brands that I love just as much as name brand items, if not more, through the years.

As an added bonus, I did something a little different this week. I don’t usually put recipes with bacon in the budget menus. However, this week, I was able to do it because one pack of bacon is going to cover two different recipes. When you spread the cost of the bacon out over two different recipes, that have leftovers, it makes the bacon more cost effective.
