Run, run, run…that is what Momma would always say when we were running full throttle as a family when I was growing up. That is how I feel right about now. So, an easy recipe that is comfort food sounded perfect today. I am guessing this Crock Pot Homestyle Beef recipe will feel like a life-saver to you too when you feel overwhelmed, but want a heart main dish.

This recipe actually came about when I saw a comment from reader Michelle on our Homestyle Crock Pot Chicken saying she changed it up to use beef round steaks and beef broth. I loved the idea! So, I gave it a try, and now you have this amazing recipe!

One great thing about beef in a crock pot is that you can cook it low and slow all day. It ends up being fall apart tender even if it is a tough cut of meat. If you need to cook this on high, I would recommend going with a more tender cut of beef. Your results will not be tender if you use a tough cut of beef and cook it high and fast.

  • ยฝ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1ยฝ teaspoon dry mustard
  • ยฝ teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • ยฝ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 lbs beef round steak
  • 2.5 Tablespoon oil
  • 2 cups chicken broth

Instructions

  • Mix together your flour, dry mustard, salt, pepper and garlic powder and coat your beef (I use a gallon size baggie).
  • Reserve excess flour mixture for later step.
  • Heat oil in a skillet (or browning slow cooker)
  • Brown beef on both sides but do not cook through.
  • Mix together any excess flour with broth and pour into slow cooker.
  • Add beef and cook on low for 8-10 hours until beef is fork tender and sauce has thickened.

    So Easy to prep…Simple ingredients …Just need a chuck roast or a similar cut of roast.
    The seasoning was perfect. I did not see any of of family reaching for salt or pepper. I love the way this recipe makes it own gravy as it is cooking. (it was like magic) Enjoyed by all…..
