How to Make Meatball Tater Tot Casserole in a Crock Pot
Aunt Lou here.
We all loved the Taco Crock Pot Tater Tot Casserole I made a while back that I thought I would try making up a similar recipe with a spaghetti type theme (with tater tots instead of noodles). Wouldn’t you know that Crock Pot Meatball Tater Tot Casserole was a hit! We gobbled it right up!
I didn’t get all fancy with this recipe. I wanted something easy to make up in a hurry without worry about a bunch of measurements. With that being said, if you want to jazz this recipe up with some extra seasonings on top of the seasonings in the spaghetti sauce and meatballs, go for it! Or you can stick with this recipe. It isn’t really a “dump and go” recipe, but a “layer and go” recipe. With the meatballs and tater tots, you get a hearty dish with very little work. Win, win!
What You Will Need for Crock Pot Meatball Tater Tot Casserole
Ingredients Needed
- 2 lbs Italian Style Meatballs, thawed
- 24 oz spaghetti sauce (I used traditional style, but you can use your favorite.)
- 2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese
- 32 oz bag frozen tater tots, kept frozen
Equipment Needed
- Can opener (You will only need this if your spaghetti sauce is in a can and not a jar.)
- Measuring cup
- Casserole Crock Pot or 6 Quart Slow Cooker
Time Needed
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cooking Time: 2 to 3 hours on high, turning your insert halfway through cooking if your slow cooker does not cook evenly
- Optional Broiling Time: 3 to 5 minutes on high broil, if you want crisp tater tots and have an insert that is broiler safe (Watch continually while your casserole is in the oven. Do not walk away. A recipe can go from perfection to burnt very quickly in a broiler.)
