How to Make Good Gravy Tater Tot Casserole in a Crock Pot

Aunt Lou here.

This Good Gravy Beefy Crock Pot Tater Tot Casserole is different from my other Good Gravy recipes. It has the same ingredients and flavors as the other Good Gravy recipes, so I stuck with that name since you would already be familiar with it. However, you can’t really stir this casserole like you would all of the other recipes. Don’t worry. Even though you can’t stir all of the ingredients together to truly form it all into the gravy you are used to, the flavors are still there and still delicious. We make quite a few tater tot casseroles here, and this one was proclaimed the favorite by more than one person in my house. It is that good!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef browned and drained
  • 10.75 oz Can Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 10.75 oz can beefy mushroom soup (OR golden mushroom soup)
  • 1 oz ranch dip mix
  • 1 oz brown gravy mix packet
  • 1/4 cup Beef Broth
  • Pepper Jack Cheese
  • 32 oz frozen tater tots kept frozen

Instructions

  • Lightly spray your casserole crock pot or 6 quart crock pot with cooking spray.
  • Spread your cooked and drained ground beef evenly in the bottom of your crock pot.
  • Spoon your soups evenly across your ground beef.
  • Pour your broth into your cream of mushroom soup can and stir with a spoon to rinse out the can before pouring it around the edges of the crock pot.
  • Sprinkle your mixes on top of soups.
  • Lay your Pepper Jack cheese slices in a single layer across the top of your casserole.
  • Spread your tater tots evenly across the top of everything.
  • Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours, turning your insert halfway through cooking if your slow cooker does not cook evenly.
  • If crisp tots are desired, and your insert is broiler safe, place insert in your broiler on high for 1-3 minutes, until your tots reach desired crispness. (Watch your casserole constantly while broiling. Do NOT walk away. A recipe can go from perfection to burnt in the matter of seconds in the broiler.)

      Hi Kris!

What I am talking about is turning your insert halfway through cooking so that everything will cook evenly. I have updated the recipe to state it more clearly. I hope you enjoy this as much as we do!

Recipe sounds great! One question: no one in my family likes pepper jack cheese. What can we use instead?

Honestly, I am not a fan of pepper jack cheese either. It does well in this recipe. However, I can understand your hesitancy. I haven’t tried this with any other cheese, but you might try Havarti or Monterey Jack. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

We love hearing from you, it totally makes our day! Please remember, our comment section is much like our dinner table... You don't have to like everything we serve up, but you do have to use your manners.
