How to Make Garlic Chicken Thighs in an Air Fryer

Aunt Lou here.

So, I knew we were going to love this Air Fryer Garlic Chicken Thighs recipe’s flavor because we already love the flavor of my Crock Pot Garlic Chicken Thighs recipe. The butter mixture for this is also one that Michael has been using for years on the grill. It is just amazing!

I’m going to be perfectly honest with you. I am not entirely sure that the step of patting the chicken dry is necessary since I immediately put it in the melted butter mixture and then the air fryer. However, I always pat chicken dry with a paper towel before air frying, so I continued the process. I don’t know if it mattered with the end product, but my chicken turned out great, so I kept that step in the recipe. I hope yours turns out just as amazing and you enjoy it as thoroughly as we do!

Ingredients

  • 8 bone-in chicken thighs
  • 1 cup butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon parsley flakes
  • 1 teaspoon dried cilantro leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your 7 quart air fryer for 3 minutes on 360 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Mix together all your ingredients, except your chicken, in a medium size microwave safe bowl. (I used the bowl to melt my butter before adding in the seasonings.)
  • Pat each chicken thigh dry with a paper towel and coat generously in butter mixture.
  • Carefully place 4 coated chicken thighs in the air fryer basket so they are not touching.
  • Cook at 360 for 12 minutes, flip and cook for an additional 12 minutes at 360, flip and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes at 400.
  • Repeat for the remaining 4 chicken thighs.

Is it absolutely essential to use the bone in Chicken thighs? We prefer the boneless and skinless thighs. I can’t think of any reason that wouldn’t work just as well. The only thing really different would be the skin of the chicken. Ours wouldn’t have that crispy skin on it.

I haven’t tried this with boneless, skinless thighs, but think it could work. You will probably have to adjust the cooking time, so watch it closely the first time you make it to adjust it as needed.

We love hearing from you, it totally makes our day! Please remember, our comment section is much like our dinner table... You don't have to like everything we serve up, but you do have to use your manners.
