How to Make Apple Spice Cake in a Crock Pot

Aunt Lou here.

Reader Su asked on our Crock Pot Chocolate Cherry Heaven if it could be made with a spice cake mix and canned apples. I thought that idea sounded delicious and wanted to give it a try, and now you have this amazing Crock Pot Apple Spice Cake!

Here’s the thing…I could not find a spice cake mix even after going to or checking with 4 stores. My mind was blown! However, I figure that if I am having a hard time finding one, the same could happen to you! So, I started googling how to make a spice cake mix with a white cake mix. That’s when I ran across this recipe that said you could use a white or yellow cake mix. It worked like a charm!

In case you are wondering about the color of the apples, that would be the cinnamon that you are mixing up with your white cake mix. I love the way the flavors of the spices blend into the cake and apples in this recipe. I bet you will love this recipe as much as we do!

  2. This sounds great! I’m surprised you couldn’t find a spice cake mix. Betty Crocker makes the best spice cake mix. Been making it since 1980s. It will be amazing in your recipe. YUM!

  3. Carolyn Pollock says:

If I have a spice cake mix would I still add the extra spices or just the cinnamon for the apples?

      Hi Carolyn!

I haven’t tried this with a spice cake mix, but it should work just fine! The spices are to make the white cake mix into a spice cake, so you can skip the spices all together. However, if you like extra cinnamon and want to use it, go for it! If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!
