Aunt Lou here.

There once was a recipe that was scrumdiddlyumptious, but not very pretty. That recipe, Slow Cooker Ranch Pork Chops, was the start to this Crock Pot Creamy Ranch Chicken recipe. I wanted it creamy though…with more sauce. Hmmm…what to do?!

Well, as I was looking through all the delicious recipes over on Whatcha Crockin’ Wednesday, I saw this Crock Pot Fiesta Crack Chicken on Chasing Saturdays. She had just the ingredient I was looking for! Cream. Cheese. Boom! This recipe went from Ugly Duckling to Beautiful Swan! And the taste is awe-some!

Ingredients for Crock Pot Creamy Ranch Chicken

  • 4-6 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 oz pkg ranch dressing mix
  • 8 oz pkg cream cheese softened and cubed
  • 10.75 oz can cream of chicken soup
  • Optional: prepared angel hair pasta

How to Make Creamy Ranch Chicken in a Crock Pot

  1. Place your chicken in the bottom of your crock pot
  2. Evenly put your cream cheese cubes, ranch mix and soup all over your chicken
  3. Cover and cook on low for 2-4 hours
  4. Remove your chicken from your crock pot and place on top of a bed of angel hair pasta, if desired
  5. Mix your sauce in your crock pot until smooth and spoon over chicken and pasta

Crock Pot Creamy Ranch Chicken Note

  • This recipe has cream of chicken soup in it. If you would rather make your own instead of using the store bought stuff, we have a great Homemade Cream Soup Substitute for Recipes that you might want to check out!
  • Since I was changing things up on this recipe and had never tried it before, I definitely wanted my trusty ol’ Sir Hamilton (my Hamilton Beach Programmable Insulated Slow Cooker) to do the cooking for me. A new recipe can give you surprises sometimes, so I wanted my reliable crock pot for sure! You can use your favorite 5-6 quart slow cooker.
  • I served this over angel hair pasta with wonderful results. You could eat it without pasta or use your favorite pasta. Make it your own!
  • As with any of our recipes, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly depending on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish.
  • All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline and should always be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

We love this in our home!! I struggle with boneless breast size. Packaged differently by store. You call for 6 breasts but I can buy a package with 4 and its nearly 5 lbs. What is the weight of your chicken as written? Much apppreciated.

I’m so glad you love this in your home! I don’t remember exactly what the weight was on the package I used. However, 5 lbs sounds like plenty. If the chicken breasts look extremely big, you might want to cut them in half so they will cook up in the regular time. Hope that helps!

This recipe had pretty good ‘bones’, but I wanted to have a more substantial one-pot meal. Without going into precise detail, I modified as follows: I added onion, garlic, mushrooms (we love), & broccoli florets, increased the amt. of heart healthy Cr. of mushr. soup, as well as the Nufrachel cheese. Also, browning the chicken first gave the dish yet more flavor. Served it with whole grain angel hair pasta, & a side salad. Enjoyed by all.

Hi I’m debating on trying this recipe as my husband first not like cream cheese. Is there some other kind of cheese I could use instead of the cream cheese?
    Thank you,

    Linda

      Hi Linda!

Cream cheese is a main ingredient in this recipe. Taking it out or changing it with something else would greatly change the texture of this recipe. Here are a few other recipes you might try instead:

Great recipe. Because cream cheese was used instead of sour cream, leftovers freeze well. I served it over rice (love the electric rice cooker too).

I plan on putting everything together in my crockpot the night before and putting it in the fridge. I’ll be using frozen chicken. If I turn in my crockpot the next morning before I go to work, the chicken shouldn’t be totally frozen still. Does it still need to be only on low for 2 to 4 hours? Thank you! I wasn’t sure if you used frozen chicken or not.

I used thawed chicken for my recipe. I have not tried it with frozen or partially thawed chicken. Enjoy!

      Hi Shelley!

You will need to lengthen your cooking time for bone-in chicken. Be sure you use your meat thermometer (making sure you don’t touch the bone). Enjoy!

I made this today, it was ok I guess, but neither of us would care if we had it again. I would give it about a 4 out of 10

      Hi Clair!

I always hate to hear it when someone doesn’t enjoy a recipe as much as my family did. Unfortunately, it is bound to happen with how many different recipes we have on the site. I hope you find a recipe your family greatly enjoys soon!

I’ve made this recipe before. Yummy! Sometimes I add cooked crumbled bacon, maybe two or three slices. I’ll usually just mix it in at the end, That sounds so good over linguine!! i’m making it now & will serve it on a bun.

      Hi Julie!

It all depends on the size of your crock pot, size of your chicken breasts and how hot your crock pot cooks. For instance, my chicken breasts were almost at 200 degrees (a little higher than I would have liked) just before 4 hours using a 6 quart. That is why we always recommend using a meat thermometer when cooking. That way you will always know for sure that your meat is cooked to a safe temperature, and it can also help you keep from overcooking your meat as well! Hope that helps. Enjoy!

This is my absolute favorite slow cooker chicken dish. I wait and put the cream cheese in a half hour before serving. I think my slow cooker cooks fast and scorchs around the edges if I put it in sooner.

This so good just with a baked potato too.

I haven’t tried this recipe with thighs yet, but I think it would work. You will need to adjust your cooking time accordingly. Let me know how it goes! Enjoy!
