Below is a post we did with Cans Get You Cooking a while back when they asked me to share with you a little about how my pantry helps me feed my family on busy school days. I thought it might come in handy for those of us that are trying to cook through things we might already have on hand.
Cans Get You Cooking
I have always been a big fan of the convenience canned food offers me. By maintaining a well stocked pantry, I have a lot of options even when I do not have a lot of time. Aside from convenience, I also love the kind of flavors you can add to a dish straight from the can. Substituting chicken broth for water will almost always take the flavor up a notch in any crock pot recipe. Additionally, there are many canned beans, tomatoes, corn, etc. that have delicious additions like garlic, onion, basil, peppers, chilies and more already added into the can.
I love using these kinds of ingredients to make a nutritious home cooked meal for my family even when our schedules are crazy. But how does the nutritional content of canned foods stack up to their frozen and fresh counterparts? Studies conducted by researchers at Michigan State University, UC Davis and Oregon State University all concluded that canned foods have similar (or better) nutritional profiles as their fresh or frozen equivalents.

I keep canned tomatoes—lots of them! I am trying the Fiesta Pork Chops.
I always have canned beans in my pantry. I love the supper and breakfast recipes and make which ever one I have the ingredients for. Mostly chicken.
The recipe that I would try would be the crock pot party beans. I am always using my crock pot. The can goods that I most have in my cabinet all the time is all kinds of assortment of beans and cans of tomato soup,Its a good throw together when you are in a pinch to take to a picnic.
I stock the following;
green bean, kidney beans, black beans, corn, cream corn, rice and noodles.
I also keep BBQ sauce, steak sauce, and P nut butter.
I want to try the fiesta Mac and cheese..
I’d like to try the Crock Pot Spanish Rice…sounds yummy!
Butter Beans! And they are not always easy to find at the store….. I use them for my most requested crockpot recipe, handed down from my mother-in-law “Old Settlers’ Beans.”
I always have cans of fire roasted tomatoes on hand for using in soups and chili.
I always keep diced tomatoes, mushrooms and cream of chicken soup on hand.
My favorite canned ingredient to have on hand is canned tomatoes and tomato sauce. Here in the midwest, we cannot always get good tomatoes…but with the myriads of varieties of canned tomatoes, I can cook all kinds of wonderful things with my crockpot and tomatoes.
I like using crockpots for spaghetti sauces. I am most interested in making your French Onion Soup Recipe. It looks great!

I always keep several cans of fire-roasted diced tomatoes on hand. I love adding a can or two to various skillet dishes with rice (or elbow macaroni) and whatever meat I grab first from the freezer. Add some canned beans (I like both kidney beans and black beans) and whatever seasonings strike your fancy and you’ve got a fast, filling, satisfying dinner.
I always have peas&carrets . And I am going to try the Fiesta Mac and Cheese, and the Crock Pot Party Beans.
Cream of mushroom, french green beans,tomato soup,and Bush’s baked beans

I can my own potatoes, so always have those on hand

I can green bean myself for a winter supper of green beans, cottage ham and potatoes for a one crock pot meal. I usually have between 20 and 30 quarts on hand.
I always have green beans, asparagus, corn and creamed soups, also canned chicken and Tuna. The recipes that caught my eye this time are the green beans and catalina chicken thighs.
