Crock Pot Recipes Using Canned Goods
Updated 3/16/2020
Cris here. Whether you are stuck at home or find yourself very busy juggling all the things, pantry cooking can help put dinner on the table quick and easy.
Below is a post we did with Cans Get You Cooking a while back when they asked me to share with you a little about how my pantry helps me feed my family on busy school days. I thought it might come in handy for those of us that are trying to cook through things we might already have on hand.
Cans Get You Cooking
I have always been a big fan of the convenience canned food offers me. By maintaining a well stocked pantry, I have a lot of options even when I do not have a lot of time. Aside from convenience, I also love the kind of flavors you can add to a dish straight from the can. Substituting chicken broth for water will almost always take the flavor up a notch in any crock pot recipe. Additionally, there are many canned beans, tomatoes, corn, etc. that have delicious additions like garlic, onion, basil, peppers, chilies and more already added into the can.
I love using these kinds of ingredients to make a nutritious home cooked meal for my family even when our schedules are crazy. But how does the nutritional content of canned foods stack up to their frozen and fresh counterparts? Studies conducted by researchers at Michigan State University, UC Davis and Oregon State University all concluded that canned foods have similar (or better) nutritional profiles as their fresh or frozen equivalents.

Actually there are two canned products I always MUST have on hand, tomatoes (what’s not to love, they go a myriad of places and are a big part of so many fabulous recipes) and green beans (I can always get my family to look forward to them, plus they remind me of beloved diner meals of days gone by). I do love old timey meals of the past and likely always will.
I always keep different canned beans on hand ( pinto, black, etc). They come in handy when you need to put something together & haven’t set beans to soak. Who thinks that far ahead? haha I just broke my big crock pot so would love to win this one. Thanks

I have all the canned goods mentioned, but not the canned broth. I find that way to salty. I have been a follower of your site for years and have made a bunch of yummy crock meals. Now it is just my husband and I and I am finding that my small crock gets to hot. I put a canning lid on the bottom, and swirl it around to dissipate the heat, not much help. Cannot wait to start making some good winter meals in the crock, but with a careful eye!!
I want to try the Spanish Rice Recipe. I seem to never make it right for my family!
My husband is a can food hoarder. So you can find just about everything:veggies, fruit, meat, broth, tuna, salmon…if it comes in a can we probably have it!
