Crock Pot Recipes Using Canned Goods

Updated 3/16/2020

Cris here. Whether you are stuck at home or find yourself very busy juggling all the things, pantry cooking can help put dinner on the table quick and easy.

Below is a post we did with Cans Get You Cooking a while back when they asked me to share with you a little about how my pantry helps me feed my family on busy school days. I thought it might come in handy for those of us that are trying to cook through things we might already have on hand.

I have always been a big fan of the convenience canned food offers me. By maintaining a well stocked pantry, I have a lot of options even when I do not have a lot of time. Aside from convenience, I also love the kind of flavors you can add to a dish straight from the can. Substituting chicken broth for water will almost always take the flavor up a notch in any crock pot recipe. Additionally, there are many canned beans, tomatoes, corn, etc. that have delicious additions like garlic, onion, basil, peppers, chilies and more already added into the can.

I love using these kinds of ingredients to make a nutritious home cooked meal for my family even when our schedules are crazy. But how does the nutritional content of canned foods stack up to their frozen and fresh counterparts? Studies conducted by researchers at Michigan State University, UC Davis and Oregon State University all concluded that canned foods have similar (or better) nutritional profiles as their fresh or frozen equivalents.

Italian Beef Roast, Fiesta Pork Chops, One Pot Sausage Dinner, Catalina Chicken and Italian Chicken are all a snap to throw together. Crock Pot Italian Pot Roast : , I keep a full pantry of at least 50 different canned goods & never less than 2 cans of each item & as much as 3 cases of most used items like mixed veggies, diced tomatoes, whole potatoes, Chili beans, green, pinto, great northern, red, 3 bean salad, baked,re-fried,black, & pork-N-Beans, corn, peas, carrots, a variety of Greens( mustard, spinach,ETC ), pasta sauces, mushroons, tomato sauce & paste, a variety of frostings, a variety of cake & brownie mixes, a variety of canned meats, jams & jellies, BBQ rubs, spices, sauces, asparagus, beets, okra, condensed & evaporated as well as powdered milk, and the list goes on, but, you get the picture. My pantry shelves are 7 Feet tall, 1-1/2 feet deep, & 14 feet long, accompanied by 3 chest freezers, & 3 refrigerators full of fresh & frozen ( SELF BUTCHERED MEATS, & home grown fruits & vegetables, wild game from hunting, & plenty of fish I have caught. ) AND, lots of home canned goodies. WE EAT WELL, & i love my assortment of 20 or more crockpots ranging from 1 Qt. size to 18Qt. size & multi crock crock pots. I do something ALMOST daily with one or more of the crock pots. I would hate to think of living without them.
