Just made this for dinner tonight, and it was a hit. Didn’t change anything except for the cheese soup. I couldn’t find it at the grocery store, so I substituted cheese and broccoli soup. Delicious! Thanks for sharing.

Assuming y’all are using frozen tater tots, have y’all found that 20 mins in the oven is long enough? Thanks!!

Just curious if you know if I could make this in a pressure cooker and what the cook time might be?

I have made this in the oven and crock pot, but not an electric pressure cooker. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

We haven’t tried freezing this. I’m not sure how the tots would do being cooked and refrozen. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes!

As I have made this before and it has turned out wonderful, my grocery store didn’t have the cheddar cheese soup the recipe calls for. Is there any alternative substitute I can use that won’t make too much of a difference in the dish? Thanks in advance!

      Hi Sierra!

I am so glad you have enjoyed this recipe! I’m sorry your store doesn’t have cheddar cheese soup. You might try making a cheese sauce and use 1.25 cup of the cheese sauce as a substitute. If you give it a try, let me know how it turns out! Hope this helps!

Hi Lou! I actually ended up using 12 oz of velvetta cubes and a cup of milk. It didn’t turn out too bad! Thanks for the idea!

We live up in interior Alaska. We have pretty warm summers and no A/C, so we use our traeger grill alot! I made this tonight on the traeger and it turned out amazing. I used some smoked cheddar in it and it turned out amazing! I also put half an onion in while I browned up my hamburger.

Was wondering.. could you add refried beans & chunky salasa ((so not watery)) into the meat & cheese & MIX well before adding the tots.. make it more of a taco cassarole? Has anyone tried this? I was thinking watching this.. its almost like my own taco bake.. but with tots & not shells..

My Family loved this! I added frozen corn and a can of diced tomatoes, but it felt like we were eating at Taco John’s!!! Will definitely make again. I might also add a can of black beans next time – didn’t think of that for tonight.

I made this tonight and it’s great! Very simple to put together with common ingredients that are easy to find. Very filling and full of flavor. I did add a little more cheese than called for in the recipe to fully cover the top. Plus what’s wrong with more cheese right? I’m single though and this makes a lot!! Next time I’ll use about half the bag of tater tots (if that much even) and put it all in a 9×9 casserole dish. For me that will be an easy 4 – 6 servings.

Personally I like and need meat so if I were to ever make this huge batch again I would increase the ground beef by about half a pound, or use about 3/4 of the bag of tots. For my tastes it’s a little heavy on the tots but just barely, I want meat lol. Again that’s my taste.

My small apartment size oven cooks a little hot too so I don’t add cheese to the top of something like this until about the last 7-10 minutes of cooking time to keep it from burning. Maybe something people might want to be aware of when trying this in their own home.

I thought it was great just as is and I also tried a few bites with salsa, that was a little too much and didn’t taste quite right. Not bad but just not right. But then tried a few bites with a little taco sauce and wow that really enhances the taco flavor. It doesn’t take much, just a drizzle on top was fine. Now I’m thinking it could fully be topped like a taco with lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole etc. I have enough leftover to try it tomorrow night. Thanks for another great recipe and love the YouTube channel. I want a Ninja Foodi so bad!
