Aunt Lou,huge fan…
Made this same meal twice now using frozen DiRusso’s Mini Meatballs instead of canned beef…my store doesn’t carry canned beef….and love those meatballs. 😉
First time as recipe was written ,tasted good and so easy.
Second time…adjusted a tad….frozen pear onions and Italian seasoning….tasted even better…
Two days ago bought stuff to try a 3rd variation.
Home style meatballs, whole canned potatoes, a fresh sliced onion, and a can of Rotel.
(I get, doesn’t fit with just canned stuff)
Tried dozens of recipes from this site, adjust some for personal taste, but you folks never disappoint! 🙂

P.S.
Might wanna try this with frozen meatballs….might like it 😉
I, too, have not heard of canned beef, but wonder if it is available at food pantries? As a participant in one of the senior monthly food programs, I recently was given two 1-1/2 pound cans of canned pork. My attempted use of the first can ended in disaster. I’m wondering if this stew recipe might work with canned pork? In the meantime I’m printing and saving this stew recipe. Who knows, I might be blessed with canned beef next month. Love your recipes! I’ve printed and used many of them.
I haven’t tried this recipe with canned pork, but think it could work. Here is a recipe I have made with canned pork: https://www.recipesthatcrock.com/easy-creamy-crock-pot-bbq-pork/. Hope this helps!
Could this be done in an Instant Pot pressure cooker? If so, what would you change and how long would you cook it?
I believe it can be. Since I haven’t tried it myself, I am not sure on the timing. I will add it to my list of recipes to try in the Instant Pot. If you give it a try before I do, let me know how it goes!
I too have never heard of canned beef but will look for it when I go to the store. I bet this might work well with chicken and chicken broth. When I was young one could buy a whole canned chicken.

Canned beef? I’m not familiar with canned beef. I don’t think I’ve ever had canned beef. What are the predominant brands of canned beef? Where do I find it at the supermarket?
Could I substitute regular stew meat?
This recipe sounds good! I want to try it!
The brand my store had was Keystone. You can find it in the canned goods/pantry aisle at the store. I haven’t tried this with regular stew meat, but think it could work. If I did try it, I would use 2 lbs of stew meat. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!
