How to Make Bacon Cheeseburger Casserole in an Oven

Aunt Lou here.

Dear readers, this Bacon Cheeseburger Casserole oven recipe was a HUGE hit in my house. My youngest, who tends to eat like a little bird more often than not, at her entire bowl! My oldest went back for seconds, and both of the kids, as well as Michael and myself, were raving about how yummy it tastes!

You’ll notice that on this version of the recipe I listed the onions as optional. The reason for this change is that while I thought I had a whole bag of onions in the house, I did not have a single one! So, I have now had this recipe with and without the onion slices. Either way, it is yummy. So, it is entirely up to you and your personal preferences (or what you have in your home at the time you are making it!).

I cooked the French fries right on top to make it so you don’t have to cook them separately. We loved it. However, if you would like to cook your French fries on their own, feel free. You will just need to watch it closely the first time you make it and adjust your cooking time accordingly since you won’t be cooking the French fries and casserole together.

What You Will Need

Ingredients Needed

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 t garlic salt
  • 10.5 oz can Cheddar cheese soup
  • 1/2 lb bacon crisply cooked and crumbled, divided
  • 1/2 onion thinly sliced, optional
  • 1.5 c shredded Cheddar cheese
  • Frozen French fries (You may use as few or many as you would like. I used about half of a 32 oz bag.)

Equipment Needed

  • Skillet and strainer or micro cooker (for frying your ground beef)
  • Griddle, air fryer or skillet (for frying your bacon)
  • Measuring spoon
  • Measuring cup
  • Can opener
  • Spoon
  • Medium to large bowl
  • 9 x 13 baking dish

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 20 minutes at 450 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Optional Broiling Time: 1 to 3 minutes on high (Any time you use your broiler, you must watch it continually. Do not walk away. Do not look away. Just a few seconds can take a dish from perfection to burnt mess.)

I'm wife to Michael (not Mikey 😉 ) and mom to Mr. Ryder and Miss Iyla. I'm just walking through this life step by step focusing on enjoying the little things in life. I am in awe of the many blessings big and small I receive daily from a pretty amazing God who calls me His own. Sometimes life is crazy and messy, but I am loving every minute of it.

I doubled the recipe and tweeked the original version. I added worcestershire sauce and Mc cormics grill mates along with Velveeta to the hamburger mixture. I also layered, in a checker board pattern, dill and bread and butter pickles along with a layer of cherry tomatoes I cut into quarters. It was a huge hit in our household of 7.
