How to Make Italian Style Chicken and Potatoes in a Crock Pot
Aunt Lou here.
This Crock Pot Italian Style Chicken and Potatoes recipe is right up my alley. It is super easy to throw together, and if you are like my Momma and can peel potatoes with ease, you are going to be able to throw this together in a cinch. However, never fear, if you are not a master of potato peeling, I am not either. Honestly, with a knife, I cut away more potato than I leave. I use a potato peeler, and it takes me a minute or two to get a potato peeled. Peeling the potatoes is the only hard thing about this recipe though. Other than that, this is a dump and go recipe. You are going to love how easy it is to throw together! It is a great recipe if you are just starting out with your cooking journey or have been cooking for years and years.
I love the flavor of this recipe. So did my family. I am betting that your family and friends will too!

Years ago, twenty-something to be exact) my ex’s mom taught me to make this as I was in nursing school, working, and had 2 young kiddos! She made it just like this but with a few twists. I will add them here for anyone who wants to add a little extra. It is great as is, but these extra additions make it even better (in our opinion).
Same as above recipe, but also add into crock pot at start of cooking:
a small onion (your favorite kind, we use sweet Vidalia) cut into quarters
a dash (or a few dashes, however you like it) Tony Chacheres or cajun seasoning
Once everything is done, just before serving, add a squeeze of fresh lemon (or however much you like) over the top
My kiddos like to mash the potatoes in their bowls and then add extra juice from the pot over the top. I was really surprised at how delicious and EASY this is! As a southern lady, my family never had a crock pot and everything was cooked all day, and took forever to make a meal. I was so appreciative of this recipe and I still make it for my kids twenty years later. Those two are grown now, but still come home and ask for this dish! Our youngest is 10 and she loves it just as much as them, so if you have a picky eater, this is one dish that all of mine love. Highly recommend.

Thank you so much for sharing! The additions to this recipe sound delicious, and I love the story that goes with it!
So are the potatoes sliced in chunks or sliced like scalloped potatoes?
By chicken tenders, do you mean breaded chicken fingers?
Or sliced chicken breast? Or another cut of chicken?
The vernacular may be different with non-american followers 🙂
My local stores sell packages that are labeled chicken tenders. If yours does not, you can take chicken breasts and slice them into strips that are about two fingers width wide. They would work in this recipe. Hope this helps!
Aunt Lou
Definitely not breaded, that would all fall off in a crock pot and turn into mush.
You can use chicken breasts- either whole, sliced, or tenders- (which are just thinner slices into strips), but you can also use chicken thighs.
Our family has used all of the above- just never breaded. In the meat department, look for the boneless, skinless version of chicken breasts or thighs. Best of luck!
Really amazing and versatile recipe!
Wow, thanks for this awesome chicken and potatoes recipe. We appreciate having tasty and new recipes to try. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for your kind words Adrienne! I’m so glad you enjoy it!
Is the chicken frozen or thawed?
Hi Brandy!
Food safety experts recommend not using frozen meat in a slow cooker. You will want to thaw your chicken first. Enjoy!
