Crock Pot Recipes Using Canned Goods

Cris here. Whether you are stuck at home or find yourself very busy juggling all the things, pantry cooking can help put dinner on the table quick and easy.

Below is a post we did with Cans Get You Cooking a while back when they asked me to share with you a little about how my pantry helps me feed my family on busy school days. I thought it might come in handy for those of us that are trying to cook through things we might already have on hand.

I have always been a big fan of the convenience canned food offers me. By maintaining a well stocked pantry, I have a lot of options even when I do not have a lot of time. Aside from convenience, I also love the kind of flavors you can add to a dish straight from the can. Substituting chicken broth for water will almost always take the flavor up a notch in any crock pot recipe. Additionally, there are many canned beans, tomatoes, corn, etc. that have delicious additions like garlic, onion, basil, peppers, chilies and more already added into the can.

I love using these kinds of ingredients to make a nutritious home cooked meal for my family even when our schedules are crazy. But how does the nutritional content of canned foods stack up to their frozen and fresh counterparts? Studies conducted by researchers at Michigan State University, UC Davis and Oregon State University all concluded that canned foods have similar (or better) nutritional profiles as their fresh or frozen equivalents.

    I sways have a large variety of canned veggies and soups on hand in the pantry. Today the cream of mushroom soup came in very handy after I watched your You Tube video on how to make Salisbury
    Steak, the video was adorable so I cranked out the crock pot and my Salisbury Steak is cooking right now, thanks for the great site and I cannot wait for dinner!?

    Never without Christoforo Columbo 6 in 1 GroundTtomatoes. Buy ’em by the case at Glorioso’s Market in Milwaukee (because we live 5-1/2 hours away in Presque Isle WI and they are not available in this area) and have used them on Eddie G.’s recommendation for some 25-30 years.

    Canned Food always in my pantry – Beans for chili and tomato puree for my homemade BBQ sauce. My sauce gets rave reviews from all of our friends, they all want me to bottle it and sell it, we have named it “Awesome Sauce” ๐Ÿ™‚

    I always seem to have a can of French cut green beans somewhere in the pantry, I’ve always been a green bean type of gal. The recipe that I’d most likely try from the list would have to be the Fiesta Mac and cheese. I like that it’s a twist on the traditional Mac and cheese (:

    We try to always ave Ragu brand hearty garlic tomato sauce. You can dd just about anything to it in the crock pot and go for the day and dinner is ready when we get home. As far as a recipe I want to try in my crock pot I would have to say a loaf of bread.. Hard to beat the oven but I think I might break down and try if I got to win this beautiful new crock pot. And IF I can’t win with one entry then I am not meant to win it but someone else is. Thanks for such great drawings.
