hi, I am going to make this meatloaf for tonight’s dinner and don’t have dry gravy mix. Can I use bottled brown gravy instead? and if so, do I warm the gravy and add it to the meatloaf while still in the crockpot?
I haven’t made this with gravy from a jar, but think it should work. You will just warm it up and add it to individual servings when you plate them. That way you can add as little or as much gravy as each person wants. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

LOVE THIS!!! I have made this several times and my little one tries to eat the entire meatloaf!! I do use Beefy Onion Soup Mix (which is just onion soup mix with beef seasoning added) sometimes and it is awesome too! Also I bake it in the oven (just because I tend to be lazy and forget to have hamburger thawed out in the morning! lol!). My mom used to make it different, but this has become our go to meatloaf now!! Thanks so much! 🙂
I’m so glad you enjoy this recipe! I’ll have to try it with the beefy onion soup mix sometime.
Just made this today. It is delicious! A keeper for sure!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
I have made this a couple times and it is now my favorite meatloaf! I do have a question. If I wanted to bake this in the oven, do you know what I would set it to? Time/temp?
Yay! I’m so glad this is your favorite! I haven’t tried making this in the oven. I usually cook my meatloaf on 375 degrees Fahrenheit. For the timing, I am not quite sure since I usually make a 2 lb meatloaf. I would start checking it around the 30 minute mark, but leave enough time before dinner for it to take up to a full hour. I’ll add this one to my list of recipes to try in the oven and give it a try. If you try it before I do, let me know how it goes!
I can’t find French Onion mix. Are you referring to Lipton Onion Soup mix.
Hi Tammy!
Mine said French Onion Soup Mix on it and was a generic brand, but a Lipton Onion Soup Mix packet should work just fine. Enjoy!
Aunt Lou
Yes.
Can you replace the oats with breadcrumbs?
I have tried that adjustment to the recipe, but think it could work. If you give it a try, let me know how it turns out!
I made this last night, my 1st meatloaf ever, and I did replace the oats with breadcrumbs.. it turned out great. Better than great. I doubled the recipe and I mixed up and added the 2 pkgs. of gravy and 2nd pkg. of onion soup mix in the crockpot at the 3 hour mark instead of taking it out and transferring it to the oven. Cooking in the gravy that long made it so tender, if I would have tried to take it out of the crockpot it would have fallen apart so we just used a large spoon and spooned what we wanted out. For the 1st meatloaf I’ve ever made, I couldn’t be happier about how it turned out.
That’s awesome Ashley! Way to go on not only your first meatloaf, but making the recipe your own!
Even though I dumped in the gravy with the meat it turned out great! Might have to do it this way again!
Wonderful! I believe Bob Ross would call that a “happy little accident”. lol I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
I forgot to put this on until just now so I am using the high setting but in my haste I dumped the gravy packet in with the meat. Hope it doesnt turn out to mushy
How did it turn out Joy?
I almost did the same thing! Even opened the gravy packet. Thankfully did not dump it in lol!
Is 1 ounce of onion soup mix equal to one envelope of onion soup mix? I don’t know how else I would measure it.
You are correct Linda. One envelope is 1 oz. Enjoy!
