How to Make Cube Steak and Potatoes in a Crock Pot

Aunt Lou here.

When Cris suggested I add a layer of hash brown patties on top of her Crock Pot Cube Steak with Gravy Recipe, I was not sure what to expect. I definitely did not expect the extra level of flavor the hash brown patties gave to the dish. It is just wonderful!

My entire family loved this recipe. I made it while we were on a camping trip with Cris and her family, as well as Mom and Dad. Like I said, I was not sure what to expect, so I made it and brought it out to serve up to everyone. It was gobbled right up with lots of requests for seconds. It was a hit, and one that I personally loved! I am willing to bet you and your loved ones will love this scrumptious recipe as well!

It may sound weird to use hash brown patties as your potatoes and then mix them with the gravy, but it is phenomenal. The seasonings on the hash brown patties just take up the flavor of this meal. I have so many ideas on recipes I want to try with hash brown patties now. Once again, big sister had a wonderful idea!

  1. curious what regular hashbrowns would work instead of the patties?

I haven’t tried this with any other style of hash browns, but think diced hash brown potatoes would probably work best. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes!

  2. Are the hash brown patties frozen when you put them in the crock pot?

Yes, Ma’am! I took them straight out of the freezer and put them into the crock pot. Since they are not meat, it is okay. It keeps them from getting over cooked as the meat cooks. Enjoy!

  3. You say put potatoes on top of meat then add steak to cock pot. What goes in pot first potato’s or steak? It is a little confusing. Thank You

I’m so sorry Don. I messed up when writing the steps. The steaks go in first. I have fixed the recipe card.

  4. Steps 6 and 7 are confusing me. Do the cube steaks go in the crock first then the hash browns on top or vice versa.
