How to Make Mississippi Beef Noodles in a Crock Pot
Aunt Lou here.
If you have looked around Recipes That Crock very much, you might have noticed that we love Mississippi recipes. (You can find them all here.) I am not sure how we have not made this Crock Pot Mississippi Beef Noodles before, but as soon as I saw the gap in our Mississippi line, I knew I had to make it!
This is a great recipe when you need a cooking time that is all day long. You can quickly put it on in the morning before you leave your home for the day and it will be ready for you to shred when you get home. I love those kind of recipes!
One of the great things about beef in a crock pot is that even the toughest cut of meat becomes fall apart tender if you cook it on low all day. So, no matter what kind of roast you have on hand or find on sale, this recipe will give you wonderfully tender beef alongside your delicious noodles. Win win!
What You Will Need
Ingredients Needed
- 3 lbs beef roast
- 1 Packet Ranch Dressing Mix
- 1 Packet Brown Gravy Mix
- 1/4 Cup Butter (half a stick of butter)
- 6 Pepperoncini
- 4 Cups Beef Broth
- 24 oz Bag Reames Frozen Egg Noodles
Equipment Needed
- Measuring cup
- 6 quart slow cooker
Time Needed
- Prep Time: 5 minutes (or less)
- Cooking Time: 8-10 hours on low with an 30 to 60 minutes on high (With beef, I do not recommend cooking on high. When you cook on low for a long time, it takes even the toughest cut of beef and makes it fork tender.)

I followed the exact recipe, and we absolutely loved it. This is the second time this month I am making it. It will definitely be something I will make every year now in the cold winter months.
Aunt Lou says
Yay! We’re so glad to hear that you loved this recipe as much as we do! Thank you for letting us know…it really makes our day.
Sue says
What if you do not have the pepperoncinis to add?
Aunt Lou says
I haven’t tried this recipe without the pepperoncinis, but have think it might work. The flavor will be different from the original recipe, but there are plenty of other flavors. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

Looks yummy! We have to have gluten-free noodles, though; me because of a gluten sensitivity, and hubby because he is type 2 diabetic and GF is better for him. Any suggestions on how long to cook the GF noodles in the crockpot? Thanks!
Aunt Lou says
I haven’t ever cooked with gluten-free noodles, so I can’t say for sure. The stove top instructions for the noodles used in this recipe is to bring the water to a boil, stir in noodles, let the water return to a boil, lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes. I would suggest looking at the stove top instructions on your gluten-free noodles and see how those instructions compare. That way you can have an idea of the timing adjustments needed. As always, watch it very closely the first time you make it so you can know exactly what timing adjustments you need to make. If you give a try, let me know how it goes. Hope this helps!

Easy and delicious. I didn’t add the butter and took 5 oz of broth out at the end and added flour,
Charlene Vasapolli-Bryan says
I can’t find the frozen noodles my grocery stores don’t have them what do I do?
Aunt Lou says
Here is a link to Reames store locator: https://reamesfoods.com/where-to-buy/. If they don’t have any stores near you, regular eggs noodles should work. I haven’t tried this recipe with regular egg noodles, but have had success using them in other recipes. The timing will be different when you add them at the end, so watch them closely to adjust the cooking time as needed to have your noodles at your preferred tenderness. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!
Start says
Do you cook it on low for 8 hours or 10 hours and how long do you cook the noodles so I don’t over cook them
Aunt Lou says
Hi Start!
Ooops…you must have missed it! As we shared in the post and recipe card, you will cook everything but the noodles for 8-10 hours until fork tender. Then you will shred the meat with 2 forks. After shredding the meat, you will add your noodles. Regardless of whether you use the frozen noodles the recipe calls for or the dry egg noodles, if the frozen noodles aren’t available, you will want to watch it very closely so that you can stop the cooking time once the noodles reach your desired tenderness. I have found that how tender people want their noodles varies greatly from person to person, so that is why I recommend watching it closely. Hope that helps!

If I could give this 10 stars, I would. I followed the recipe exactly and it came together in all of 5 minutes, and tasted fantastic. Cooking times stated in the recipe were accurate for me, and the noodles came out perfect. I was worried this dish might be more brothy/soupy, but it thickens up nicely from the noodles. Very, very good. This will definitely be a regular meal in our house. 🙂
Aunt Lou says
Thanks for letting us know you enjoyed this recipe. I’m so glad! It makes our day to hear that our readers enjoy a recipe we have posted.
Kathy says
I made this tonight for dinner. The smell of it cooking all day was delightful. My husband and I both thought it was very tasty except for the noodles. They were gummy and chewy. I had never used frozen noodles before (and probably won’t again). I will definitely make this recipe again but just cook egg noodles on the stove snd add them just before serving.
Aunt Lou says
I’m sorry that you didn’t like the frozen egg noodles. We realize that with almost 2,000 recipes every recipe isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. I hope you like it better with the changes you stated and/or find another recipe from our library that you love.
Cyndi says

What do you pair this with? Like sides? If any?
Aunt Lou says
This is REALLY filling, so we don’t always pair it with a side, but sometimes we will pair it with green beans or corn. Enjoy!
Sara Blanton says
OMG I never leave comments, but I had too! Love this recipe and so did my family. They are picky!lol Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe! It’s amazing!!!

What type of beef roast do you recommend? I always have a hard time picking the right meat. I have never hard a Mississippi roast yet. Thanks for your help!
Aunt Lou says
With cooking this recipe low and slow, you can use whatever roast you can get at your local store. We have used a variety of roasts with this recipe with great success. Enjoy!
heather says
anyone used stew meat?
Aunt Lou says
We haven’t, but think it might work. The cooking time would probably be shorter, so watch it closely the first time you make it. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes!
Rhonda Clement says
The stew meat will tenderize as beautifully as if you had a top-notch beef roast ! ~ Trim any fat off of stew meat (doesn’t have to be exactly bare of fat). Maybe cut chunks into smaller pieces before cooking.. You may still pull apart after cooking if you’d like. ~Have Fun & Enjoy!
Jon Barker says
This was really great!!! Can’t wait to make it again!! Thanks for the recipe!!

I tried this super easy recipe. My husband loved it but next time he wanted me to try making it taste not so salty. Any ideas what I can do. I did use low sodium broth. Help if you can. Thanks😀
Aunt Lou says
You might see if you could get a low-sodium version of the ranch and gravy packets. Also, make sure you use unsalted butter. Hope that helps.
Cheryl B says
We started it late this afternoon. Finally done around 11PM and it is crazy good. It’s so tempting to keep eating. Delicious! Thank you!
Aunt Lou says
So glad you enjoyed this as much as we do! It really is one of those meals that is hard to put down.
Michele says
Looking forward to trying this. There are only two of us, so there will be leftovers. Is this freezable?
Aunt Lou says
Hi Michele!
We haven’t tried freezing this after cooking. I think the meat would be okay, but worry that the noodles would turn to mush when you reheat the meal. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes.

Laurie says
Super Good! And super easy! I substituted onion soup mix from the ranch and used the Amish dry noodles as suggested in another comment. Noodles to an hour to cook. I’m thinking about adding sour cream next time to make it “stroganoffy”. My family is really enjoying it, pretty there won’t much for leftovers. Thanks for the great recipe. Laurie
Aunt Lou says
So glad you and your family enjoyed this! You adaptions of the recipe to your tastes sound super yummy. Thanks for sharing with us. We love hearing when our readers enjoy a recipe we have posted and made their own!
Deborah D Applegate says
Making this tomorrow and wondering if anyone has ever added onion or maybe dry onion soup mix?
Aunt Lou says
I haven’t tried adding onion or an onion soup mix. Let us know how it goes if you give it a try!
Terri says
Meat was delicious
Just not a fan of reames noodles
When I make it again i will use different noodles
Aunt Lou says
Glad you enjoyed the meat! We always encourage our readers to adapt our recipe to their personal tastes. I hope you enjoy it even more once you use your favorite noodles!
Nicolee says
I made this today. Actually I started it last night. We have our big meal at noon so I put it in late last night and when I got up this morning the house smelled so good! This was absolutely delicious!!! Didn’t change a thing. The only thing I would do different next time, and this is just a personal preference, is to cook the noodles separate. We loved this recipe and I know we will make it again. Thanks so much for sharing!!
Aunt Lou says
I made this just this weekend and am so glad you enjoyed it as much as we do! Thank you for taking the time to let us know how much you liked the recipe. It really makes our day to read comments like yours!
Lisa says
Hi! This recipe sounds delicious, but I don’t have a crock pot – my Instant Pot has a slow cooker feature but it doesn’t work reliably – do you have an Instant Pot version, or recommendations to try it this way? Thanks! 🙂
Aunt Lou says
We do not have an instant pot version of this recipe, but do have an Instant Pot Beef Noodles recipe (https://www.recipesthatcrock.com/electric-pressure-cooker-beef-noodles/) You should be able to use the ingredients from this recipe with the times from the recipe above. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes!
Anette says
Frozen noodles are not available in our area. Any suggestions for substitution? I imagine the noodles cooking along with the rest of the ingredients would have more flavor…
Aunt Lou says
I haven’t tried this with another kind of noodle, but think the dry Amish egg noodles would work well. Watch it closely once you add the noodles so you can adjust the cooking time as needed. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes!
Jenny says

Kara says
Where exactly do you put the butter? Does ‘in the middle of the roast’ mean you cut into the roast and stick the butter inside it? Or just set it in the middle on top of the roast??
Aunt Lou says
You will just put the butter in the middle of the roast on top. No need to cut into the roast. Enjoy!
