How to Make Melt In Your Mouth Round Steak in a Crock Pot
Aunt Lou here.
Ever since my first Melt In Your Mouth recipe, I have been in love with the simplicity and flavor of these recipes. (You can find all of them here.) I always love an easy recipe, but it is quite the added bonus when the recipe results in an incredibly flavorful and tender (ya know, melt in your mouth tender 😉 ) dish.
This dish is great with a variety of sides, so you can pair it up however you like. Sometimes we like to pair this with a salad and some delicious Crock Pot Corn on the Cob. Other times, we have had it with Bacon Crock Pot Green Beans and Potatoes and Crock Pot Creamed Spinach. I bet it would also be pretty tasty with Crock Pot Savory Parmesan Rice and Air Fryer Asparagus Bacon Bundles. Whatever you want to pair this with, I am guessing you will enjoy it greatly!
What You Will Need for Melt In Your Mouth Crock Pot Round Steak
Ingredients Needed
- 1.5 lbs beef round steak
- 12 oz jar beef gravy
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Equipment Needed
- Sharp knife
- Cutting board
- Measuring cup
- Measuring spoon
- Wooden spoon
- 4 quart slow cooker
Time Needed
- Prep Time: 5 minutes or less
- Cooking Time: 6 to 8 hours on low, turning your insert halfway through cooking if your crock pot does not cook evenly (You can technically cook this on high for 3 to 4 hours, but I don’t recommend it. Cooking beef on low is always the best way to get the most tender results.)

Hello, I am on a strict diet and will have to omit the gravy. Would I prepare it the same without the gravy?
I haven’t tried this without the gravy. It will significantly change the end dish since the gravy adds flavor and helps make the ending cooking juices a bit thicker. I would recommend adding in some additional seasonings that are allowed in your strict diet to help replace the seasonings that the gravy would add.
I don’t know if any of our other round steak recipes will fit your needs, but you can find them all here: https://www.recipesthatcrock.com/recipe-index/?fwp_search=round%20steak&fwp_recipe_index_type=crock-pot%2Cmain-dishes&fwp_recipe_index_ingredient=beef. Hope that helps!
Susan i am on a low sodium diet so I am substitution the gravy for low sodium beef broth and when it is almost done add a corn starch slurry to thicken the gravy. I also added onion and a bay leaf for flavor.
used this recipe a few months ago ==steak tasted great and was really tender will be making one change to this next time i make it==for seasoning will add 1 pack of hidden valley ranch seasoning
I love the idea of adding a ranch packet! Let me know how it turns out.
