Many of our readers love my Crock Pot Green Beans and Potatoes recipe. We have had a couple readers tell us they love adding bacon to that recipe, and that sounded like a great idea to me! So now you have the original version of this recipe or this one with an extra layer of flavor.
I love how the bacon flavor cooks into the green beans and potatoes. It really makes this side dish pop and is a great addition to so many different dinners. These would go great with anything from chicken or beef to pork or even fish! Whatever you decide to pair this delicious side dish with, I hope you and your loved ones enjoy it as much me and my loved ones do!
What You Will Need for Bacon Crock Pot Green Beans and Potatoes
Ingredients Needed
- 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 29 oz canned green beans, undrained (2 – 14.5 oz cans)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 4 pieces bacon, chopped, divided
- salt and pepper to taste
Equipment Needed
- Sharp knife
- Cutting board
- Can opener
- Garlic press
- Measuring cup
- 2.5 quart crock pot or 4 quart crock pot
Time Needed
- Prep Time: 7 minutes
- Cooking Time: 6 to 8 hours on low or 3 to 4 hours on high, stirring halfway through cooking time if possible
General Notes
- If you haven’t ever used bacon in a recipe like this, you will want to note that it will not look the same as when you fry bacon. It won’t crisp up and get really dark in color like it does when you fry it. It will be soft and pink, but after cooking in a crock pot for as long as it takes for your potatoes to soften up, it is indeed cooked. It just looks different than when fried.

Bacon Crock Pot Green Beans and Potatoes
Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes peeled and cubed
- 4 slices bacon chopped, divided
- 29 oz canned green beans undrained (2 – 14.5 oz cans)
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Sprinkle half of your bacon pieces on top.
- Pour your green beans over top.
- Sprinkle your salt, pepper, remaining bacon and minced garlic over everything.
- Pour in your broth.
- Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8 hours, stirring halfway through cooking if possible.

Can fresh or frozen green beans work in this recipe?
I haven’t tried this with fresh or frozen green beans. It might work, but I can’t say for sure without testing it first. If you give it a try, watch it closely the first time you make to adjust the cooking time as needed.
